Photo of the Day and a New Doll Board

Here's some incredible eye candy for you from LBx/France. Do you think she is a Numina freak?

I love the rainbow wigs and Qipao. For those readers who may not be familiar with these dolls, they are the creations of Paul Pham, 16" resin BJDs.  http://dollcis.com/

The photo was posted on a new doll board called FBJDMingel.

Sybarite Neurotica Covers Up?

I am sure that other fashion doll collectors have experienced finding the perfect outfit for a doll. Once it's on the doll, she becomes even more gorgeous than before. This newly found fashion treasure will stay on the doll for a long time.
Two weeks ago I briefly considered removing Neurotica's tattoos and then Masque arrived. Her red lips convinced me to give her the new outfit. I could not stop looking at her once she was redressed. You can still see the tats but they aren't in your face (although her boobs are,) and I'm so glad I didn't remove them.

Mohair wig by Ilaria Mazzoni "Time of Doll"

I have an assortment of other 16" BJDs but in my opinion, no doll poses like a Sybarite. Emilia's Inro comes very close. There are no wobbly knees or kicky arms. I do not enjoy fiddling with legs for what seems like an interminate amount of time every time I handle wonky-jointed dolls. I know this issue can be taken care of by wiring the body but I don't know how to do it. I can't be the only one who is having this problem. Is anyone telling the manufacturers? As if they don't already know, right?

Betcha Can't Buy Just One!

Ai Plum joins Ai Lagrus and a Rudette for a photo op. It doesn't get much cuter.

I haven't put eyelashes on Plum yet but I will get around to it. Neither doll is wearing all the outfit pieces they came with.

Have you gotten one yet?

More Freyr Pictures

I'm quite pleased with how they turned out. If I were to continue to do faceups, I think I would get good at it. Practice, practice, practice.

Would you believe that these are iPhone pictures? This latest iPhone takes better pictures than a Canon point and shoot. Admittedly, the Canon is a few years old but seriously? I even used the built in flash option.

JUNKYSPOT Freyr Cat Anthropomorph Boy Figures

Junkyspot is a business that sells Asian ball jointed dolls such as Obitsu, Hujoo, Bobobie, Pullip, Limhwa and more.  www.junkyspot.com/

Both of my Freyr cats have the boy body. He measures just a bit over 9 inches tall. The Freya's (note the difference in spelling) description explained the girl body had a different head cap and I read that it was difficult to work with.  I decided to get two boys, one grey and one white. At that time, if you purchased two cats, you got a smaller one for free. I'm still waiting for the special eyes I ordered for my little one although his faceup is already done. Stay tuned.
Here is the description from the website:

Includes: Head+Finished body
Includes: Optional Tail with Magnets
Made of ABS Plastics
Strung for articulation tension
Eyes are not included
Faceup not included
Dimensions:
  • Head: Takes a 6.5-7" wig (would need to be modified to fit ears)
  • Height : 23cm
  • Eyes : 18mm (not included)
  • Girth of neck : 4cm
  • Girth of Chest : 10.5cm
  • width of shoulders : 5.5cm
  • Girth of Waist : 9cm
  • Girth of hips : 10.5cm
  • Foot Size: 3.5cm
The Whole Family
I do have experience painting but not much with doing faceups. One workshop is all the training I ever had and I never did it again. My natural painting style is too "painterly" to do a classic faceup. I had to remove the work three times until I was somewhat pleased with it. I used pastels, water color pencils and acrylic paint. The lashes went on easily. The eyes were no problem to install.  The nightmare was reattaching the head. But once I did one, the other wasn't too difficult.

I'm planning to matte the bodies and blush them a bit but for now, this is it.  I like the gray one better than the white one.

I've been told they can wear Blythe clothes. I've seen them in Barbie stuff. But I'm not planning on making them into fashionistas. This was a fun and inexpensive experiment.
The Minion is there to protect her modesty.

Do you want to be awestruck? Then head on over to Cholo Ayuyao's Flickr to see his newest show, Ethni:City, an extravaganza of stunning fashion design for 16" dolls.  Each of the 10 fashions demonstrates the artist's skill in embellishment, construction and use of multiple fabrics. All come together as wearable art for dolls. I am sure there are many of us who would love to have one or more of Cholo's creations. Offers are being taken.

News in the BJD World

Modsdoll is offering unpainted, nude dolls with the Miao sculpt beginning December 6, 2013. The cost is $350. plus postage. To the US, postage amounts to $48. via EMS, which is the only option.

Ficon Doll has released a new dressed doll called Jeanius. She is LE 30 and lists for $699.
Postage to the US amounts to $45.

Enjoy these photos by Alexandra Forbes.

Superdoll  held a Black Friday sale and from what remains on their site, it seems to have been a less than successful event except for several items that had been hanging around for a very long time. The current Monoglam collection has been fairly unpopular judging by the fact that everything was still available as of Friday including all the dolls and all the outfits in the line. Velvet (dressed in pink) is now sold out and the Flutterby fashion is sold out. (That fashion may have been sold out previously. )
I have not been collecting Sybarites long enough to know if this is the first time they have put the current collection on sale.  It's pretty upsetting to buy a doll or an outfit at full price and to see it go on sale within the year. For example, Marl & B sold their exclusive Sybarite Neurotica for a whopping $820. plus postage in July of 2012. A few months later, they dropped the price about $200. This past weekend they sold out at $499.
I love my Sybarite dolls but this, combined with the defective dolls I've received, has made me very wary of going forward with purchasing directly from the manufacturer or dealers with exclusives.

Kingdom Doll  is a new 16" resin BJD designed in the UK. Her sculpt looks beautiful.
So far they are on Facebook and Flickr. Perhaps a website will follow. Look for the first official teaser ad in FDQ's Holiday 2013 digital issue.
These photos are from their Facebook page.

Here is a statement from their page:
Here at Kingdom Doll we are very excited to finally be presenting  our miniature fashion models to the doll collecting community.  The schedule of the year ahead has beenmeticulously planned and we are certain you will not be disappointed. Expect to see a variety of stunning 16" models, starting with our debut sculpt Novantae and continuing later in the year with the introduction of some of her friends (yes there will be more than one sculpt).Kingdom Doll aspire to be more than just a line of beautiful faces, creating a buildable and eminently wearable wardrobe of statement pieces, classic investment garments, hot runway looks and neutral colored essentials.Along with some truly amazing accessories, shoes and bags, Kingdom Doll wants to give the collector a doll line they can feel invested in.

Picture of the Day by Susan in NC

I don't have enough time to browse all the doll boards. There is so much great stuff that collectors are posting. I'm subscribed to a thread called Fashionable Felines on DollyDaily.com so I get new posts mailed to me. This particular  photo was posted a month ago by Susan in NC.
It is entitled

Leather and Lace: A Catsy Family Portrait
As time passed, they amassed.
It is so funny - especially the caption. I love it. Look at the clock on the wall. I had a full-sized one of those years ago.

Are you familiar with the Catsy dolls? I was not until I saw them on Dolly Daily. That's the trouble you run into when you spend too much time looking at the doll boards. You find other stuff to like. Sigh.

Catsy dolls are designed and manufactured by Elfdoll. They are resin ball-jointed figures whose eyes can be switched. Just like any other doll, they are customizable. If you do a Google search for "Catsy BJD" you will come up with many images of customized Catsy dolls. What is the plural for Catsy - Catsies?
Of course, when you do this search and see all the wonderful cats and other small BJD animal dolls out there, you will want one. Be warned, resistance may be futile.

I think she's the most glamorous Fugu yet. Her eyes, the color of her lips, the wig all contribute to a smoldering, sexy look. As far as the bite marks...the jury is out on that for now. It's better than fangs in any event.

How much is £397.00 you ask?
USD $636.73 or Euro 467.67

And then there's shipping, of course.

The Petrographie collection consist of 3 dressed OOAK dolls: Aimant, Grès and Craie. More photos at the flickr set.

Grès is the second doll in the Petrographie collection and features the African Nnaji sculpt. Her face is hand painted with light hazel green eyes, shimmering gold eye shadow and her parted lips have ombre effect with gold and grey. Her nail polish is a French manicure in gold with grey tips. The long applied lashes have golden tips.

Her 20's inspired outfit consists of a under bust brocade corset dress with ruched silk hem, golden netting choker top with asymmetrical ruching, gold and grey Art Nouveau serpent sculpt heels, and a hand-beaded skull cap with lavender glass beads. All items are hand made by em'lia.

Resin BJD Nudes in Comparison by Liane Laughlin

The following photos and text are by Liane Laughlin who has granted permission to reproduce it here.
_______________

Since so many have had questions about the differences between all the various resin fashion dolls, I decided to get my dolls naked for an in-depth comparison. I love each and every one of these brands for different reasons, so I have no hidden agenda. Below is a link to my FBJD Comparison Set on Flickr. I compared Ficon Denimish, JamieShow Angelina, DeMuse Doll Papillon, Deva Doll Nantha, Inamorata Inro, Numina Devon and Sybarite Dionysis. I have a Tonner resin doll around here somewhere too, but did not include her. Seems like there has been plenty of pictures of the Tonner anyways. I don't own a ModsDoll (yet). For holding a pose, the Sybarite won hands down. Others can get into the same positions as the Sybarite, but can't hold the exact same pose without support like the Syb can.

Ficon Leonie

I've rarely played with Leonie although she is my only Ficon doll. She has a serious posing issue. Her knee joints are not strong enough to hold a pose - even when she's on a stand - without major fiddling. She is a candidate for wiring. (Oh, Adrian...) She's got a little head, too. I like it as it is really more proportionate than most other 16" BJDs.
Here she is in her new Ilaria Time of Doll wig. She's wearing Ficon designed fashions and the shoes are Paul Zhangby. (eBay/China)

If you do not already know, the Doll Peddlar is the best source for Ficon dolls, clothes and accessories once they have sold out on Ficon's website. Ficon fashions fit Jamieshow dolls beautifully.

Perhaps if I put a pair of these boots on Leonie, she'd stand up without buckling knees.

Phoenix Wears Tonner Designed Fashion

Phoenix is quite photogenic. She is pretty and her resin glows.
More good news, she can wear most Tyler sized fashions and shoes.
The wig she is wearing in these shots is a fantasy style of mixed platinum, opalescent, pink and a slight metallic. It was made by Fetique Clinique.

The fashion is by Robert Tonner and is called Florentine. It was a 2002 dressed doll and is one of my favorite Tonner fashions-ever.

Parting Shot

We're leaving for IDEX in the wee hours tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to the Mel Odom event and seeing other doll buddies without a computer between us.
The spousal unit and I will also play at Universal for a few days. It's going to be so much fun.

Here is a quick picture I took of Inro the other day. I've been trying out different wigs. I like her in the darker shades.  I did get a wonderful new wig from Ilaria yesterday and it will make it's appearance in FDQ soon.

Watch Mel's Presentation LIVE!

George of Angelic Dreamz just announced that they will be live streaming the IDEX presentation at the Mel Odom/FDQ/Jamieshow event in Orlando on Saturday April 13, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM EDT

Here is the information and the link to join.

http://new.livestream.com/accounts/3557200/LiveFromIDEX

It's my understanding that other portions of the 3 day IDEX will also be broadcast but I do not have the specifics.

George also posted on Studio Commissary that the new doll will have a different body from the Jamieshow dolls. Will she be closer to the Gene Marshall body? Will a resin Trent follow eventually? Oh my.

Paul Pham's Numina Nimbus

The latest Numina went live last week and sold out in about a minute.  She is an edition of 50 and cost $700. Paul's dolls are gaining popularity with every new release.

Here is the description from Paul's site:
Pale skintone, blue-grey eyes with stormy charcoal shadow and matte nude lips. Long loosely curled strawberry blonde wig by Ilaria. Sky blue silk satin trench, lined in pale silver silk habotai with metallic sequin/beading detail at shoulders and pockets, belted with a pieced "leather" obi. Underneath is a soft pink chiffon and metallic lace slip dress. Completing the look, a pair of dark grey thigh high "suede" wedge boots.

Review of Emilia Couture's Doll Inamorata Inro

This is basically a pictorial review of Inro's body and posing ability.
I started out by taking pictures of her next to a Gen3 Sybarite body. I was surprised that she is so much smaller. Inro is much lighter than a Sybarite which is no surprise because Sybs are weighty dolls. She has a very warm yellowish skin tone.

Her body is very angular, her head even more so.

The hands shown are one of three pair provided with the doll in addition to a pair of paddle-like shipping pieces.

As you can see, she is incredibly flexible. Her joints move smoothly and hold their position.

Style is a personal preference. Inro is not a doll for the faint of heart. Her appearance is very far from the standard fashion doll of today's market. That's what I like and dislike at the same time. Her face-up is total runway drama. Eventually I may shorten the lower lashes - or not. I waver back and forth. Part of me wants to make her look more like my other dolls but that's not why I bought her.

Like the rest of my collection, Inro needs more play time. I enjoyed photographing her and that's essential for a doll to remain in my collection.
