Tonner's 2014 SDCC Exclusive Dolls

The super popular San Diego Comic-Con takes place this year from July 24 through the 27th. Those hardy and lucky enough to attend can see these Tonner dolls exclusively at the Tonner booth.  But of course, if they don't sell out there, they'll probably be up on their store the following day or miraculously discovered in the warehouse.

From the Big Bang Theory comes "Sheldon Cooper Special Edition."

Yawn.

From DC Stars a "Vintage Wonder Woman" in resin:

Their description says she's a new Tyler resin head sculpt on a resin Tyler body. She is a very pretty doll but where's the rest of her wondrous body?

She's too thin.

 _____

Both dolls are 16". Both are LE 100. Prices were not listed.

Tonner's 2014 Deja Vu Spring Collection - UPDATED

The Deja Vu line is so tempting to me because of the period fashions. I wish I had dolls who could wear them without alterations.
Several new dressed dolls and separate fashions were revealed today by the Tonner Doll Company. The best is this sketch of a dressed doll called Moonlit Romance. (See update at bottom of this post.)
Moonlit Romance $199.99
 The other dressed dolls:
Red Hot $179.99
Spicy Night $174.99
Countryside Visit $209.99
The separate fashions:
Polished (Outfit) $99.99
Thoroughly Modern (Outfit) $89.99
Crisis Calm (Outfit) $89.99

My favorite is the Red Hot dressed doll. It doesn't look as if it's available yet because there's no "add to bag" button under her. I also like the Thoroughly Modern and the Polished outfits.
I just wish the doll would close her mouth once in a while.

They are offering free shipping for the next 7 days. Use the code DEJAVU14 at checkout.

The image for Moonlit Romance has been revealed. She's much prettier than the sketch. Hehe.

Wearing of the Green

Three of the photos I created for FDQ over the past few years.

Shouldn't that say shamrocks?

Can Velcro be Far Behind?

Tonner released a few of his 2014 dolls today and the first Tiny Kitty ever to have applied eyelashes is wearing a gown made from pink glitter stretch knit with stretch glitter gloves.
Seriously?
What is this? Kindergarten Barbie?
I'm not buying it and that's that.
Don't put glitter in or on fashion doll clothes and expect discriminating collectors to shell out money for them. Who would make such a stupid decision? I don't give a damn that it's cheaper to make. It's not coming in my house.

Good luck selling a $179.99 list price doll that is covered in glitter - lashes or not.

I believe this is the end of my Tiny Kitty doll collection. Thank you TDC for keeping my money out of your pocket.

Precarious "Tamed" Makes an Appearance

I am quite fond of the Precarious sculpt. Tamed sports a glue-on wig that may or may not be switched eventually. That's if I ever get around to playing with the dolls I already have instead of accumulating new ones. I am getting better...I think. Chuckle. Chuckle.

The big glaring spot on her chest is bothering me. I should really do something about that. It's too hot. I'm going to sleep.

Jaws

No, this post is not about a shark, it is about the head of Tonner's new Hunger Games Gale character figure. Mr. Tonner is known for his full jawed doll sculpts but this one is a bit over the top.

I hunted down a good close-up of the actor that the doll is supposed to portray, Liam Hemsworth. He's a good-looking man and he does have a pronounced chin but Tonner's combination of chin, broad jawline and small mouth make the doll look as if it has an underbite and a huge head.

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong about the mouth...is it too close to the nose? There's something that throws the entire face off in spite of the fact that the features are not that dissimilar.

I think a good re-painter could fix the mouth, reshape the jaw and restyle the hair.  But why?

Anyway, if you are interested in purchasing this doll, the retail price is $169.99. Look around for discounted prices.

I had to do it.

Is this better?
If the movie had been about giant cat paws (hehe) maybe I wouldn't be afraid to go into the ocean. I still won't.

Something Old and Something Even Older

I first saw Tonner's version of Marvel's Black Cat character figure at the store in Kingston. She was masked and I didn't look further. A few months later I saw her without the mask and I knew I had to have her. This doll is just gorgeous and I adore the Breathless head sculpt. She arrived last week. I plan to restyle her hair and redress her in something elegant.

A doll that I have wanted for years has finally joined the tribe. She is "Ghost of Christmas Future," the most popular of the three re-imagined Christmas Carol character figures from Tonner. I am so happy to finally have her. I was fortunate to get one whose owner never removed the protective body plastic so she is just like a new doll in spite of the fact that she was released in 2003! Here is the link to Tonner's archived page describing the three doll set:
Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol Collection

Each of the three ghosts used a different sculpt. Future's is the Emilie head sculpt.

Tonner's New James Dean Doll and More

One of the best looking James Dean dolls ever produced was from Mattel in 2000. It was part of the American Legend series. The outfit fit him perfectly and he had the bad boy good looks of the real James Dean.

In real life he wasn't exactly the most rugged looking but he certainly didn't look like an innocent. Mattel really knocked their James Dean doll out of the park.

Sadly, this new doll from Tonner looks way too boyish and not nearly as tough or as good looking as the real Dean was. This is a nice doll and possibly a good base for customizers. I'm always in the market for really great looking male dolls to keep my girls company. But my girls are older than this fellow.

Precarious as Party Girl

Here is my latest doll who arrived yesterday. She is stunning and I love her fashion, too. Party Girl is from Tonner's new Precarious line.
I will let the photos do the talking:

Her high pony tail has a black, braided hair wrap.

Very sleek silver tights and great fitting pumps.

The only problem I see is the tight fit in the bustline which pulls the bodice open showing the lining and part of the snaps.
I love the applied eyelashes and everything about her face. This gal is a keeper!

The staircase is a Byers' Choice product.  It is their spiral staircase which has been re-released this year. The funny thing is, Byers' offices and showrooms are located about 20 miles from here. I could have purchased the staircase right there but would have had to pay PA sales tax and the retail price of $190. I found an eBay seller with a lower price, no tax and free shipping. It always pays to shop around and check prices.

Tonner's 2012 Fall/Holiday Line Release

This afternoon the pictures of Tonner's new dolls were revealed. It is a large release. Collectors who loved the 16" Marilyn Monroe will be happy to know that there is one new basic Marilyn as Pola Debevoise (?) and four era appropriate fashions. A fully dressed 16" Marilyn in the hot pink "Diamonds" gown is also going to be available for $189.99.

$124.99
There are five dressed Precarious dolls and one basic. It bothers me that new Precarious dolls have been introduced and the ones I currently have on pre-order haven't even shipped.
This one looks a lot like Raven and I thought the redhead was Antoinette until I enlarged the image enough to see her face clearly.

$189.99
$224.99

My favorite fashion is on a dressed Cami. She is lovely but I have enough Camis right now. I would like the outfit.
$179.99
Also making an appearance are Gone With the Wind dolls, Peggy Harcourt, Nu Mood, Memphis characters,  Ron Weasley, Vampire Diaries, Marvel Comics, Wizard of Oz (Steampunk Style), The Hunger Games, Twilight New Moon, American Models, Disney and 10" Patsy. I'm out of breath just typing that.
Where is Tiny Kitty and Simone Rouge?

The Nu Mood Tyler looks really odd. Is this a revamped sculpt or just a bad promo shot? Yikes. But the price is right! She comes wearing a white bodysuit and the wig.
 $59.99
There is also a Nu Mood Sydney that doesn't look like Sydney, one with the Breathless sculpt and one with the very popular Cinderella sculpt.

Tonner's New Products Revealed

The Nu Mood collection has been revealed. This new line is a collection of 7 dolls, body parts, wigs, separates, and shoes.
The incredibly well-priced, at only $59., basic dolls come in a one piece bodysuit.  Starting from the top left going clockwise they are Tyler-Fashion, Sydney-Fashion, Carrie-Dance, Betty-Curvy, Paige-Curvy, Jess-Dance and Parker-Dance.
I do not know if these dolls are wigged. It looks like three of them are not.

It appears that the title after each one's name indicates the type of body upon which the head comes. It looks like the NuMood Fashion body is the original Tyler regular bust body with removable feet (and hands.)
The dance body comes with toe feet and the curvy body comes with a larger bust. There are 2 vinyl colors called Tyler skin tone and Spice skin tone. But which Tyler skin tone is that? I'm guessing it's not the original darker Tyler.

There are three types of hands in both skintones - Set of three pairs for $24.99
There are three types of feet in both skintones - Set of three pairs of feet for $24.99
The clothing and accessories are three pairs of ballerina toe shoes, 9 high heels, 3 pairs of sandals, 1 pair of open toe flats, a gorgeous pair of beaded ankle boots, faux suede boots, 5 handbags, 7 wigs, 3 pairs of pants, and an assortment of beautiful chiffon and taffeta tops and bottoms in various lengths. I love the clothes!

There is something here for everyone looking for a customizable doll! I think the price points are excellent. Bravo Mr. Tonner and Company!

Tonner Doll Convention and Superstar Laura Domholt

Another successful Tonner convention has ended and I've heard about frenzied buying, gorgeous centerpieces, insane resale prices (what else is new?) and so much more. Many mentioned missing Tom Courtney's pictures and the flavor he added to the events in the past. It's true that there was a noticeable lack of photo coverage and we had to desperately scrounge for pictures or suffer waiting.

I think I will send Robert an email offering my photographic and video services at all future events and the only recompense I will ask for is attendance at the event, a seat at a table and a room at the inn.  That's fair, isn't it?

My new favorite person is Laura Domholt. The first time I ever saw her was at a Tonner Store event. She was dressed as Wonder Woman. Laura is tall and she really carried it off so well. Since then, she's appeared in many costumes and in every one of them, she reigned supreme dressed as a Tonner doll. She is a living doll and I want to petition for a Laura Domholt calendar.

Here are few more pictures of dolls from the event.

Robert - Superhero

There were many other dolls but the photos of them belong to the doll owners. If Tonner releases promotional photos of the others, I will post them.

________

Apologies to my readers for my absence. I've been ill for several days with severe upper respiratory combination of symptoms.  Doctor found no strep so I don't have to take antibiotics. Yay. Just have to give it time and rest. What's that?

I am about to do a big photo shoot as I received my new Ellowyne and some other goodies. Soooo...look for a pretty post later.

I want to mention that the person in charge of blogging over at Tonner Direct thanked me for the shout-outs I've given to the company over the years on my blog. She (he?) said it does not go unnoticed. That made me feel really good. I'm thinking of compiling a page of comments and email I've received from manufacturers since beginning my blog. The main reason is that I want my readers to see an email (from someone who works for one of the manufacturers) that I've kept to myself for a little more than one year. I have to give it some more thought though because it's pretty bad. There's always more than one side to a story.
