Tonner released a few of his 2014 dolls today and the first Tiny Kitty ever to have applied eyelashes is wearing a gown made from pink glitter stretch knit with stretch glitter gloves.
Seriously?
What is this? Kindergarten Barbie?
I'm not buying it and that's that.
Don't put glitter in or on fashion doll clothes and expect discriminating collectors to shell out money for them. Who would make such a stupid decision? I don't give a damn that it's cheaper to make. It's not coming in my house.Good luck selling a $179.99 list price doll that is covered in glitter - lashes or not.
I believe this is the end of my Tiny Kitty doll collection. Thank you TDC for keeping my money out of your pocket.
The fact is that truly discriminating fashion doll collectors haven't bought Tonner fashion dolls in years. The abysmal decline in quality is hardly news for this company.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is a decline in quality in many of TDC's fashions. However, I disagree with the rest of your belief that truly discriminating collectors haven't bought Tonner in years.
DeleteThank you for your comments.

I bought DeeAnna's New Gown fashion last year and it had glitter all over it that continually fell off and got on the other dresses, hair, face, etc. I ended up putting it into a ziplock bag and then never looking at it again. Too messy to dress the doll.
ReplyDeleteI had that fashion out of its box briefly - very briefly.
DeleteGlitter is awful....expecially on a $ 180 doll.....I can understand your disappointment........
ReplyDeleteIt is disappointing.
DeleteThat was DeeAnna's "New Look" (which is very pretty when deglittered) . After three washings and a warm drying, I got most of it off. Still see remnants of the glitter every once in awhile on the carpet, and just recently, my forehead before showering. I still continue to buy some Tonner, but mostly go back to the "Golden Age" of his fashions. When I see the "NO MORE GLITTER", I have to admit, I see Faye Dunaway's face in "Mommy Dearest".
ReplyDelete...or plastic shoes.
Delete"Glitter is the herpes of the craft world"
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear Tonner is going in this direction. They set a pretty high standard once.
ReplyDeleteAs always love the Blog.

It would have been so simple to find a fabric that actually sparkles on it's own!
ReplyDeleteWhileI totally agree that the glitter fabric is very "Pink Label Barbie", and gets everywhere, from a design perspective it actually works quite well for mass produced dolls. It is light weight, has a nice drape and doesn't require a hem. So for me, I don't think this doll looks that "cheap" just overpriced and boring.
ReplyDeleteI think that is my biggest gripe with TDC, everything has become static, a bit boring and very safe. I remember when I would be so EXCITED and count the days until the collection preview, but now in truth I could care less. :-( Sad...face.
