2016 IFDC Dolls

In addition to the sequined spy with a gun, there are two more dolls.
The convention souvenir is a unique combination of fashion doll and transformer toy. Dasha is the sculpt with an edition size of 500. Retail $175.
Here's her description directly from the promotional:

When Dasha™ was offered the role of super villain Anika Luxoticca in the latest Agent 355 movie, she just couldn't resist. How can anyone pass up the chance to become a half-woman, half-machine cyborg looking for a potion that will allow her to feel love again? With her exotic accent, Dasha immediately became a hit with fans of the spy genre!

Anika Luxottica is ready to fight for her right to love and has captured Professor Young, a hip and happening scientist who has invented a love potion so potent that no human on Earth, both male and female, can resist once it's been ingested! Transformed into a cyborg following a freak lab accident that left her "transformed" for life (as she sees it), Luxottica can hide her mechanical limbs by switching them for solid colored ones at will. Dressed in a futuristic lab gown and techno heels, Anika comes complete with two full sets of limbs that can be switched at will and her half of the mysterious love potion. Will she be able to pry the other half out of Professor Young's grasp? What will she do to get it and feel again? You decide!

She is intriguing and sexy in her long, slim "lab gown." The cyborg arms and legs are pretty funny. I don't know why they remind me of Monster High dolls. Did they also have dolls with clear limbs?  In any case, if I were collecting FR, I'd probably want this one because she's so different.
IT hasn't used the Dasha sculpt much and it's never been received warmly but it remains to be seen if this oddity will be liked.

The companion doll is "Marius Lancaster" as Professor  Young. He is a new sculpt.

When Hollywood pretty boy Marius Lancaster's agent called to tell him that he had landed a major role in Agent 355, he thought to himself: "Sweet, I've got it made, I'm a spy!"
He wasn't as thrilled though, when he found out that he would essentially be "the damsel in distress" and not the spy of this new epic adventure- he wasn't too sure what that would do for his macho "ladies' man" image. To his surprise, the experience on set was one of the best that he ever had and the chemistry with the movie's two lead actresses was pretty hot on film to say the least, especially in that famous scene when Agent 355 comes down from the ceiling to rescue him from Anika's laser cutting table at the last possible second, before the laser cuts him in half! His performance as a fashionably geeky professor in desperate need of rescuing did not go unnoticed by the movie-going public and since his appearance in Mission Lovejoy, the casting offers have been pouring in left and right! So, being a "mister in distress" is not that bad after all it seems, especially when you have two of the most beautiful leading ladies fighting over you... We'll definitely be seeing this guy again in the near future!

Marius Lancaster as Professor Young is a brand new character making his debut in the family of Integrity Toys male figures and comes dressed in a classical, slightly geeky look, complete with red silk tie, handkerchief, super cute argyle socks and oxford shoes, black reading glasses and a watch. Our leading man comes with his half of the formula of the love potion that he invented and a super fun set of colored test tubes in a rack, a never seen before accessory created just for this set! Marius Lancaster is a fully articulated 12.5-inch fashion figure with fully rooted hair.

Apparently "Anja" as Agent 355 has more tools than just a gun which is a good sign.

Parisian top model Anja was noticed in some of W Cosmetics' most notorious campaigns and was ready for new challenges, when her agent came up with the idea that she should give acting a shot. Soon after her very first audition, Anja immediately landed the role of Agent 355, a new kind of ultra-glamorous female spy set to save the world in the latest designer garb! Inspired by current runway looks (and OK, a lot of Las Vegas glitz!), Integrity Toys' Alain Tremblay styled Anja for the title role in Mission Lovejoy, a story he invented just for this year's IFDC convention!
Anja™ as Agent 355 is ready to solve the mystery of Professor Young's disappearance, as she travels abroad and uses every tool in her arsenal to rip him and his secret formula away from the clutches of the evil Anika Luxottica, a cyborg incapable of love and kindness.  In her own uniquely glamorous way, Anja jumps into action wearing her designer inspired sequined tuxedo and killer high-heels like every spy should, gun and camera in-hand! "M" and "Q" gave Anja a detailed mission pack that includes a map, a picture of the mysterious Professor Young and a mission brief. Now, it's up to her to prevent the cyborg from unleashing Young's lethal love potion on the world! Anja™ is a fully articulated 12.5-inch doll with fully rooted hair and hand-applied eyelashes.
These dolls are being offered via lottery to W Club members. Marius and Anja are $150. each. Anika is $175.

Jamieshow Demi-Couture Ginny

In a fit of "I need another doll" impulsivity, I ordered Demi-Couture Ginny (aka Ginnie.) She is a 12" resin ball-jointed doll.  The 12" Jamieshow BJDs made their debut appearance a few years ago but their face sculpts were not well received and they did not do well.
GeorgeG Photo

The three current offerings, Grace, Eshe and Ginny are 1/6 scale replicas of the full-sized Jamieshow dolls of the same name. Just like their larger counterparts, they come with a rooted wig cap and a bald wig cap. A small version of the Jamieshow doll stand is included as well.
GeorgeG Photo
These dolls went on sale for $191.99 recently. The sale ends at midnight on 1/11/14.
If you have Silkstone dolls, you have seen the prices skyrocket for regular releases. That made me think that this price was reasonable for a doll with joints that actually move in more than one direction. BTW Silkstone is resin.

Also available on sale is a special Grace doll, expressive hands and some shoes.

I've had one of these Demi bodies for a while and was using it with a Liz Taylor Silkstone head.

When I took Liz out of a showcase to photograph her with Ginny, I was dismayed to find that she had become very, very kicky in her hip joints. It was almost impossible to keep her upright for this photo so she is posing partially sitting. Her knees and arms are fine. I will have to wire her hip and upper legs to correct this issue.

In my photos of Ginny, she is wearing a wig that I had in my collection because her wig was frizzy and unkempt looking. I've heard that washing it out helps. It's either the fiber being used or it's being over-heated during styling. I've had this problem with every other non-bun/non-updo Jamieshow wig cap.  It happens with other manufacturer's dolls as well on occasion. Straight styles and updos are fine. It only happens when the fibers have been over-processed. As a photographer, I pay attention to the appearance of hair. It drives me crazy when I can't tame a wavy hairdo properly. There's curly and there's messed up.

Ginny is wearing Barbie (Louboutin) shoes just to illustrate that their foot size is almost exactly the same. Barbie's is a tiny bit smaller. FR2 shoes would be too large. Original FR shoes will fit as will  FR clothes from the second body. (That would be the first articulated body before they went to the first tall body. ) Of course there will be other clothes that fit depending upon their cut.

I recommend buying one or more of these demi dolls now while the price is right.

Military Figure in 1/6 Scale

Like most of us I am on every doll related mailing list in existence. This morning I got an email from Hobby Search. The figure that caught my eye is called "Crazy Dummy - 1/6 U.S. Army Saw Gunner in Afghanistan." It is classified as a fashion doll! This guy is going for about $203. and is the most detailed, realistic military figure I've seen in a long time - not that I see many - but it's incredible.  It's a pre-order. Hobby Search is based in Japan so added postage raises the price.
Take a look at these pictures. It looks like a real man.

When I see what can be achieved in 1/6 scale at this price, I realize how much I've overpaid for so many dolls. Perhaps I should start my own little army.

Anyway, the description of this character is as follows:

On eBay: Doll Shoes & Boots

I've been hunting around (wasting my life) for the past few hours for stuff for my 12" dolls. It never ends. I started out on Etsy and wound up on eBay. Here's some stuff I thought you might find interesting.

MSD Size 1/4 BJD Shoes Doll Boots  Dollfie 1311 Sale
Yosd Shoes 1/6 Size BJD Doll Boots Yosd Dollfie BB 012
Pink is everywhere!

Snow Boots for Blythe / Pullip / 1/6 doll shoes - white
Blythe 1/6 Obitsu Momoko Doll Shoes Crocodile Boots
You know you want these for yourself.

[Sunny's World] 1/6 Shoes ( N023BB )
New Dollfie Yo SD Mary Jane 1/6 BJD Dolls Shoes Gold
I love these gold shoes. The bows come off for another look.

Fashion Royalty dolls will not be able to wear these shoes mainly because the shoes are not arched but also because they would look ridiculous on a sophisticated fashion doll.

These shoes are mainly for Momoko, Obitsu, Blythe, Pullip, Yo-SD BJD, and I'm guessing Misaki will fit too. One seller gives the measurement of 'Inner Foot Length (Approx.): 1 3/4 inch (4.5cm).' The first pair of shoes is for a larger doll. Those are my favorites.

Go grab a doll and a ruler and check out the wonderful selection of shoes at seriously great prices.  These shoes are all coming from Asia-probably directly from the factories where they are made.  My eBay search was for 1/6 shoes in the Dolls & Bears category.

Let's All Build a 1/6 Scale Nazi Diorama

In spite of eBay's policy not allowing the listing of Nazi and/or Nazi related replicas, a seller based in Hong Kong is offering a multi-piece German desktop accessory set which includes a bust of Hitler, a miniature Mein Kampf and several other assorted desktop items. Hitler's eyes have been blacked out. I emailed the seller to ask if the bust was Hitler and he responded in the affirmative with several exclamation points after the word YES. He was very happy about that. The winged item is the partially blacked out national insignia of the Third Reich. Yes, girls and boys, you can get educated by playing with Nazi replicas! Oh, fun.

They also listed a desk and chair set but that sold out. From the image I cannot see the insignias on the desk.

You may wish to populate your diorama with this Third Reich character, also selling out of Hong Kong but the seller ID is different:
3R Stands for Third Reich

Their disclaimer:
"This product is for historic education purposes only, and is not intended to glorify, nor exploit the horrors and atrocities of war!"

If we don't speak out, they'll think we don't mind.

Picture of the Week Award ~ February 28, 2010

There are no dolls to be seen in this week's Picture of the Week but they may enter at any moment and look fabulous in this 1/6 scale hall/gallery diorama. At first glance, it looked real to me. Then I recognized the acrylic doll stand bases, the Fashion Fever mannequins and the wig stand. What made it look amazingly realistic was the lighting and the reflections on the shiny floor.

This wonderful scene was created by Alejandro Torres. I asked him to describe the picture and here is a summary of his response:

"With one snap of the camera, I justified not throwing away years worth of assorted plastic crap. I think like all of us, I have more Polyvinyl Chloride lying around the house than is probably healthy. I'm minimal about everything in my life except when it comes to my dolls and anything to do with them. When it comes to dioramas, I always see things as what they can potentially be in respect to a doll display. In the picture in question you see Fashion Royalty wig stands, the block bottoms of FR doll stands with Fashion Fever packaging parts in repeating patterns. The large mannequins were purchased for their wigs and then I was able to use them in another way. The walls are foam board and the elevator door was constructed by me."

This is more justification for us pack rats who are buried under stuff!

If you go to Alejandro's Photobucket album you will see not only photos of his dolls but more dioramas with and without dolls and other wonderful photography. I highly recommend taking a look.

Congratulations, Alejandro, on the Picture of the Week Award!
