The Tonner Convention began today. I'll be following along as each event is being photographed and videotaped thoroughly and posted on the Tonner Direct Facebook page.
You can join the fun virtually by checking this link often to see the pictures of the people and the dolls.

Dark Shadows Ellowyne

Another collector sat in at the Tonner Convention Ellowyne break out event for me. I was thrilled when I saw the souvenir doll.

I turned under the ends of the black bow so the beautiful details on the front of her tunic could be seen. The braids in her hair which you can see in the first photo were added by me. I may make a few really tiny ones. I think it's unusual for a convention souvenir doll to be without earrings and I wonder if they just never made it into my box. The rhinestone studs were put in by me until I find out if she's got her own.

I need this doll!

I was not fast enough to get one of the Daphne dolls left from the convention so I'm putting out a feeler...

This is the gal I'm looking for - or at least her outfit.

16" Wilhemina Wonka
She is based on a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory called Wilhemina.

Tonner Con Underway

Most of you are probably aware that the Tonner Convention is underway. Pictures of the new dolls and centerpieces are dribbling onto the web slowly although eBay pictures went up immediately by those who are hoping to sell their dolls.

The first event took place on Thursday night. The new doll is called "Pin Up Basic"  and is on a newly engineered Tyler body. The body will appear on a line of dolls called Tyler's Nu Mood. Pin Up has a sculpt which is somewhat cartoonish and was inspired by Robert Tonner's collection of illustration art. Perhaps a friendlier adjective would be illlustrationish. I wonder if my large Tyler sized wardrobe will be useless?.

Centerpiece image from the Tonner Blog

At first I was reminded of an old Coppertone ad in which a dog is tugging at a child's bikini.

Pin up illustration art is highly sexual.

Where is Robert going with this line? Will we see gorgeous lingerie and upholstered ottomans? I hope so!

Watch a 5 minute video showing the display of dolls called 20 Years of Tonner.

The Friday brunch centerpiece featured Andy, Cami and Jon. The event was called Young New York.

A new character in the Cami and Jon line was introduced. She is Gina.

I cannot wait to see what the Shadows Wilde Imagination event doll is because I'm getting it. Woo Hoo!

Basic Diane Evans from Tonner Doll

To my readers who have written wondering where I disappeared to...thank you for your concern. January is a pretty quiet month in doll world as manufacturers are preparing to unveil their new goodies at IDEX and Toy Fair. I was on vacation this past week. There's nothing like coming back home to a pile of doll boxes on the dining room table. That was fun!

Diane Evans is a gorgeous new doll in an adorable polka dot bathing suit. She has Friday Foster's head sculpt, brown eyes and raven hair. Her skintone is called Honey. She will be available late February at Tonner Direct in a limited edition of 500 for $109.99.  Pricey for a basic doll, isn't it? Some are already available for purchase; others are to reserve.
More basics from the same line of dolls:
2011 Anne Harper Wigged Basic, $109.99 LE500, Green Eyes, Raven Wigged Hair, Bloom Skintone
2011 Patricia Holt Wigged Basic, $109.99 LE500 Green Eyes, Brunette Wigged Hair, Cameo Skintone.

Miss Piggy Brings Down the House ~ Tonner Convention

This morning the Sunday Breakfast starring Miss Piggy and Kermit also saw a successful charity auction raise more than $11,000 to benefit A Friend's House.
The centerpiece dolls were Miss Piggy as "Swined & Dined" - LE 100 and Kermit the Frog as "A Fly in His Soup" - LE 100.Kermit is a new character and will be available later on in the line. He was done specially for the event. Adorable.
The centerpiece was also a totally new creation - a 10" Miss Piggy! Robert is thinking along smaller lines these days. I like it.
I don't know if the centerpiece had a name but I will find out and make the entry here when I do.Congratulations to the Tonner Doll Co. on what appears to have been a successful convention filled with unique, beautiful dolls and creatures.

Tonner Doll Company's 2010 Annual Convention in Lombard, IL

The theme of this Tonner convention is "The Sun, The Moon and The Stars." It will celebrate the fashion and pop culture influences in Robert Tonner's doll designs. Sounds fabulous, doesn't it? I am not at the convention, unfortunately, but I am following it on the Tonner convention blog and through friends.
On opening night an event called "Let Them Eat Cake" was held.  Attendees received a souvenir doll called "Takes the Cake." She is a new sculpt referred to as "Duchess." Here is a shot made by my friend Natasha Powers:
Duchess has a lovely sculpt with big eyes and well defined lips. I think that she will be a favorite for repainters.

There were three centerpieces on each table and congratulations to those who won because they are gorgeous. Here are the photos from the Tonner site of those three dolls:
Madame et le Citron - Sydney sculpt - LE100
Madame a la Menthe - Daphne sculpt - LE100
Madame a la Framboise - Kit sculpt - LE100
These are completely adorable! I adore the Sydney sculpt and I love the pink outfit.

More to follow. Stay tuned.
