Camelot: Kingdom Doll Event 2016

The Camelot event was scheduled to take place on Friday the 7th October through Saturday the 8th at The Castle Boutique Hotel in Orlando, Florida. As the final countdown to Friday progressed, dire weather predictions warning the entire east coast of the US, Haiti and Cuba filled the airwaves.  By Tuesday, there were reports of possible cancellations of flights and mandatory evacuations. I started to panic and after holding on for American Airlines for an hour, I was able to secure a seat on a flight for Wednesday. That gave me 12 hours to pack. OMG. I had never done anything like that in my life. Amazingly enough I packed and was even able to get five hours of sleep! Luckily I had already shipped my table gifts to the hotel to await my arrival which was supposed to be Friday, not Wednesday.
Anyway, I arrived in Orlando to sunny skies and 88° which belied indication of an approaching hurricane.

The first person I ran into in the lobby was a member of our fan club. She showed me around briefly and then I saw Alex. At least I knew I was in the right place.

The Castle Hotel is a quirky, small boutique location decorated in a uniquely flamboyant style. The best part was the size because one could find other people from the group easily. It was great.

Wednesday night, all day Thursday and right up to the cocktail reception on Friday were bonus days for me. The time was spent chatting and getting to know each other. That was 2 1/2 days of doll talk with lots of laughter.

I somehow (ha) managed to get in some room shopping from the three ladies who brought stuff. Here's my little haul.

We kept waiting for the hurricane to hit but Matthew was a dud in Orlando. We were all very sorry that 25% of the registrants could not travel due to airport closures and flight cancellations.

The Cocktail Reception was held in the Antler Lounge. Yes, there were antlers mounted on the walls.

We were gifted with this handsome Kinsman fashion, called Avalon.

There was a grab bag. I pulled the jacket from the "Back to Black" Kinsman outfit.

Kinsman Doll relaunch debuted Lancelot. All attendees and those whom the weather kept from attending were able to pre-order. This particular release will be exclusive to those at the event. The future open edition will differ. Details will be forthcoming.
This is a photo by Alex.

The new Kinsman, Lancelot on the left compared to the first Kinsman.

Len Ligotti organized a display of every KD to-date (not the OOAKs.) It was beautiful to see all the girls and both Kinsman Dolls lined up. Sadly, two of the slots were empty.

We got to see Igraine, a OOAK auction doll. Her sculpt is a new one and is called Icini. First photo by Alex. The winning bid was more than $12,000. (I am not posting the name of the winner here, please don't ask.)

There was so much to see at the Saturday Brunch. The fashion competition had three categories: Dressed for Shopping and brunch on International Drive, Dressed for Cocktails in the Antler Lounge and Dressed for an elegant gala evening in the Palace Ballroom. The entries were amazing. There was much creativity and even more beauty.
The winners were Patrick Paul Gerhardt for the gala evening, Mike Basala for cocktails and Steven Prokop for shopping.

Here's Steven's gal. She's got it all: phone, Starbucks, keys, Prada bag, big sunglasses. She was an incredibly appealing doll.

The next two images are place holders until I get better ones from the artists. First is Patrick's in a magnificent gown designed and crafted by Cholo.

This was Mike Basala's entry. So different and edgy!

There was another grab bag. We each got to pick two items from a box. It was fun as some of us traded for items we didn't have. I got flats and Orbit's jacket.

Excalibur was our convention fashion gift. In the left hand photo below (by Alex) the doll Guinevere is wearing the alternate gold version which was a helper gift. Nimue, the event Angel, is wearing the silver version we all received. Second and fourth photos are mine.

Pat Henry was one of the unlucky ones who could not travel to Orlando. She was to present a photo workshop. In her stead, Alex presented a few tips and tricks.

After the brunch was over a few of us went to the Florida Mall. Our driver introduced us "A Fat One."  https://www.facebook.com/fatonedogs/ It sounds very wrong until you see it.

We prowled the American Girl store. I enjoy looking at their set-ups. If only the furnishings were 1/4 scale. I want Maryellen's Living Room Set. It is so cute.  It would be perfect for period Gene doll settings. I just like it because of the spagetti poodle and the boomerang tables, the TV Guide and the lamp. That's pretty much everything. http://www.americangirl.com/shop/tables-chairs/maryellens-living-room-set-cmc54
As we entered the dining room for Saturday night's Gala, we were immediately drawn to the spectacular centerpiece, Morgana. Her sculpt is called 'Demetae.' We were introduced to this sculpt originally as Draig. The best photo of her that I have at this time is this one by Mike Austin.

At the end of the evening we were presented with a large styrofoam "rock" which had little swords sticking out. Each sword had a long ribbon attached. I knew immediately that I wanted the pink one and when the winning color was announced, I was stunned. It was pink.
I could have taken the doll home with me but I opted to have her shipped. She will be here very soon.

Our tables were loaded with gifts from KD, our table mates and other attendees. It felt like Christmas (or what I think Christmas must feel like.) Shoes, clothes, handbags, a castle candle, scarves, a stole, jewelry, a bound book of KD photos, coasters and on and on.

Winners of the competition were announced, the winning bid for the OOAK was announced and then the sword drawing. As a result of the missing attendees, there was a second drawing and two more lucky collectors were made very happy.

The convention doll, Guinevere, is everything a collector could hope for. She's absolutely gorgeous and her wig is perfection. The flexible resin 'cape' is unique.

Guinevere by Alexandra Forbes

Guinevere is the cover girl on Winter 's 2016 issue of Fashion Doll Quarterly.  We each got a copy of that, too.

We were able to purchase the gown and shoes in another color.

I'll be taking photos soon.

GENX.2 Sybarite Oxide

''Brrrrrr!' I'm so glad its getting cooler, I can finally wear more clothes!'.
Oxide is next into the Tea House and hopes everyone notices her boots, as she removed them to walk on the Tatami!.
Venus can't wait for the tea time games they will play in the miniature chashitsu created for them in the London Salon.
GENX.2 body!
Cosmetique skintone!
With memories of Harajuku, Venus hair is a blended dark auburn, with asymetric cut fringe, straight shoulder length with ever so boufant behive.
Her eyes surrounded in shades of violet and pink with lids bearing a stroke of gold, solid black liner and arched dark coffee brows. Her piercing powder blue eyes are offset with cyan. Lips the colour of dried dark rose.
A dark candy pink jacket of 'leather' is adorned in gold ring applique chainmail, geometric cube sleeves topstitched and further embelished in gold metal studs. Closures of gold magic disc belt (naturally matching her heels and platform soles) clasped in a SUPER custom belt buckle.
She slips off her jacket to reveal a white cotton long sleeve T'shirt with attached white organza geometric neck flounce. Her kilt skirt of pleated 'wool' tartan has pleats secured by gold metalic studs to match her jacket detailing... of course.
Maybe just a small hint as to just what kind of tea party this is going to be!
Furthermore she wears a shade of violet blue that is 'just so' for her full length hose, a metal studded, gold gloss pvc bag with tassle, zipper and stud detail bearing single loop strap, just big enough for maybe some handcuffs or a box of carb free candies. On her feet, fiendish multi strap platform sole ankle boots in gloss gold pvc with space strap utility side fastners in pink and oodles of fierce.
As summer's green turns to pnk; it reveals the atmospheres morph into winter hues.
Let the Games begin!

Kingdom and Kinsman - Two New Faces

Two new faces have debuted and collectors are going gaga over both of them.
This is the face of Draig (but not the actual doll) who will be released some time in October.

She has the most intriguing Asian sculpt I've ever seen. I love her in both versions above as a blonde and as a brunette. A new hand sculpt with "Stiletto Nails" will come with Draig. I cannot wait to see her!

The Kinsman has undergone dramatic changes. This is Lancelot in (almost) all his glory. You are seeing a comparison shot between him and Garrick. He is a highly refined version and I like him. I wonder if he will be able to wear other male dolls' clothes. That would be a bonus.

No specific information regarding prices or exact release dates has been issued.

Cyborg Dasha Redressed

I ordered "Cyborg Night Out" from Culte de Paris on Etsy. It took a month to get here from California, but the wait was worth it. It's well made and fits perfectly. The jewelry she's wearing was not included but was made by Culte de Paris, too.

The doll's irreverent pose, above, suits her "resting bitch" facial expression and the fashion. I love the whole look. I think she'll be wearing this for a very long time.

New Kingdom Doll Photos

Chaucer wearing a fashion by Magdalena Bareja. The wig is from Kingdom Doll Viola.

Savile models a Tonner gown from a doll called "Cyclone Cantata." Her wig was made by Ilaria.

Viola is wearing an Antonio Realli gown and jewelry by Integrity Toys. Wig by Ilaria in the first photo. I'm not sure who created the platinum wig or the rhinestone jewelry in the second photo.

The second photo of Viola was shot on an iPhone using it's built-in flash. I did tone down some of the glare on her face and chest. You can see that the highlights in her wig are burnt out with no detail. It's far from a perfect way to take pictures but the doll is gorgeous anyway!

Arnamentia is wearing her gorgeous beaded jacket created by Priya Desu Bohra, a Tonner's Precarious "Scandal" skirt and jewelry, possibly by Joy Jared. The wig was made by Cheryl Wood.
She is the newest release from Kingdom Doll and I plan to spend lots of time redressing her.

Looking seriously bored.

My doll room is in a different part of the house from my studio where I take pictures. After I redress a doll, I take pictures with my iPhone. Once in a while they turn out OK, like the one below of Arnamentia wearing her original wig.

Below is a silly photo of Viola and Arnamentia seated on furniture I recently acquired during Horsman's amazing sale. The tables and mirror in the photo are Horsman as well.

New GENX.2 Doll: VIRIDIAN DD_109

Today a new Sybarite was released. They're coming very fast these days, aren't they?
Here is the description from the Superdoll website:

VIRIDIAN DD_109

''Brrrrrr!' I'm so glad its getting cooler, I can finally wear more clothes!'.
Viridian is first into the Tea House and hopes no one notices she did not take off her boots to walk on the Tatami!.

Venus can't wait for the tea time games they will play in the miniature chashitsu created for them in the London Salon.

GENX.2 body!
Cosmetique skintone!

With memories of Harajuku, Venus hair is a vibrant titian, a choppy cut and longish sideburns and mullet back; the top pulled up into a fin and gently smoothed backwards.
Her eyes surrounded in shades of vermillion and pink with pale lids, dark black liner and arched dark mocha brows. Her piercing emerald eyes are offset with burnt jade. Lips the colour of late, late seasons tangerine.
An emerald coat of short pile 'fur' bears a huge collar and cuffs in medium 'fox' dyed exquisitely to match. Closures of dagger toggles and from within, a 'happy' pumpkin colour lining. In seam pockets and 'leather' foiled detailing go without saying.....
She slips off her coat to bare a satin, chiffon and lace 'wearable daytime' negligee, bearing accenting lime coloured rope in a knotted Kikkou. Maybe just a small hint as to just what kind of tea party this is going to be!
Furthermore she wears a shade of emerald that is 'just so' for her full length hose, a metal studded, latex and satin bag with chain straps just big enough for maybe a rope or a teapot. On her feet, fiendish multi layer platform sole ankle boots in green satin with peek a boo lace up sides and oodles of 'fur' trimming the cuffs.

The last of summers green; to reveal the Autumns beautiful hues.
Let the Games begin!

Miss Amour and Powder Puff Poppy Parker Dolls

I was pretty shocked that I won the lottery opportunity to purchase these new Poppy Parker dolls.

You can probably venture a guess as to why I would feel that way.

They arrived yesterday and I shot a few iPhone pictures. I will not be deboxing them as I plan to trade them if I see something from the Fashion Royalty convention that I want. Or, if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse...

They are lovely and if I were a Poppy Parker collector I would be thrilled to add them to my collection. They come in adorable window boxes and make pretty displays even without being out of the box. Hooray for those who don't debox.

Miss Amour's pink gown is delightfully frilly and feminine. She comes with a perfume bottle. I originally thought that I'd keep this gown as PP's clothes do fit Monogram dolls of which I have several.

Powder Puff comes with a cute white teddy bear and a diary and is dressed in a frothy bedtime lingerie set.

Both dolls were $120. each plus postage.

Here are two IT promo shots for reference:

Fashion Royalty Elise Dressed by Fu Zin Dolls

This gown is called "Purple Reign."  It's another example of the fabulous work of the talented people in our doll world. Rudi Teruel carries Fu Zin creations exclusively. They are very limited editions and Rudi announces them on FaceBook.

This is a hand made, hand embellished deep purple gown, reminiscent of a Dior, with multiple layers of fabric, each worked differently. The panels are wired as well as beaded and sequined.

I have to take more pictures of this gown. It needs to be adjusted to look the way it was intended.

The background is all wrong as I was just too lazy to put up something else.  Excuses, excuses.

You can probably get the idea in spite of my lame attempts.

My thoughts on the FR collection.
My favorite is Natalia because of the fashion. If you noticed, several dolls have a 2.0 after their sculpt names.  When the company "updated" these sculpts (along with Vanessa and a few others,) they watered down and de-ethnicized the faces. Everyone got pouty lips and narrow noses. Adele, whose very popular 2.0 sculpt was changed drastically became less popular. Natalia was originally a Latina character. She didn't need a new face or white skin.
Many collectors are displeased at the lack of skin color diversity in this release.  They're surprised that a company whose goal was to produce dolls of ethnic diversity has come to this.
The year isn't over yet. We'll see what is to come.
As to the Elyse Jolie gift set...Elyse is my favorite sculpt but this one does nothing for me. Her palette makes her mouth disappear. The outfits are not calling me either.
I think Eugenia is a beautiful doll but that yellow gown is blinding. With all that's going on with the color and the (lovely) embroidery, the sculptural details and the frills above the bustline are distractions rather than attractive elements. This could have been a beautiful strapless ball gown.  Perhaps that upper part can be removed without damaging the gown. Unfortunately, the points would be difficult to remove. It's a shame.
I thought about ordering Kyori because I like the embroidered sheath but then I read further and it's vinyl. I don't like the way the shoes or the bag look with the dress either.
If Dasha were being sold as a nude doll or in a different fashion, I'd consider her. I love the neck piece.
Veronique...meh for the dress. The shoes and necklace are pieces I'd want.
Luchia is OK. I don't like the way the lower part of the dress drapes.

Integrity Toys + My Little Pony = <3 MLP

This is IT's new line designed by Jessy Ayala. Although they are not dolls I will collect I think he did a wonderful job. They are very cute and supremely colorful and fun.

The boys use the Homme Body and the girls use the new Industry body type. They all have applied lashes and rooted hair.

...not be sold through dealers, but will be available exclusively via IT Direct!

An email notice containing the full purchase details for the first two dolls will be sent to W Club members ahead of time, closer to their sale date.
The other dolls in the line will be released later this fall in a similar manner.

My favorite is rare_form_21 Rarity™ Inspired Dressed Fashion Figure
I like everything about him!

IT designs the best male dolls and has been producing winners for years IMO.

This guy is pretty cool, too. The outfit rocks but the hat is too small. It should sit further down on his hair.

appleofmyeye: Applejack™ Inspired Dressed Fashion Figure

The issue for me as a collector of fashion dolls is that these <3MLP have an aura of Hello Kitty-ness if that's a thing.
I think these dolls will appeal to a rather slim portion of the population - like the Jem collection; however,  I hope it succeeds because these dolls are interesting to look at.
