Visit to the Tonner Store

When I lived in Woodstock, NY, it was a 15 minute drive to the Tonner store. Now, it takes about 3 hours and doesn't happen very often. This past Saturday was the first time I've seen the store since it moved to Wall St. in Kingston.
It's always fun to spend time chatting with Dr. Noreen. We could talk for hours and cure all the world's ills.
For those that don't know my story with Noreen, here it is. It was 14 or 15 years ago when I went to my first Tonner trunk sale. It was held out-of-doors at the old building on Lucas Avenue. I was really just beginning my collecting as I had accumulated a few Tiny Kitty dolls prior to then. I saw 16" Tylers, Emmes and a few others for the first time that day and met Noreen. She predicted what was to come as far as my collecting would go. Who knew? It's a very fond memory.

These are iPhone pictures. Please remember that you can click to enlarge them.
Enjoy!

Emma Jean's "Dramatic Entrance" Outfit

Described as a "simple black knit dress beneath a stunning rich and creamy coat trimmed in faux fur and a velvety collar," this is the one and only item from the Deja Vu line that I have ordered. I don't own any Deja Vu dolls but I fell in love with the look of this ensemble and rightly assumed that the roomy coat would fit any of my 16" dolls.

Modeling here is Tonner's Cami. The dress, which I don't show, is slightly on the tight side as I couldn't snap all the snaps. I did not put on the black hosiery and the shoes, although they fit, have a more of an arch than Cami's feet have.

The large collar can be turned up.
On Cami, the hat is too large so a straight pin was used to take up the slack. If I had wanted to put the hat all the way down to her eyebrows, it might have been the correct diameter.

The ensemble really should have come with earrings. It wouldn't have been a big deal to make matching jet bead studs.

I like the construction of the coat but this very visible spot needs attention. Where is the other half of the triangle?

The promotional photo below doesn't look like my coat. I wonder if they are all this way. I need another triangle to replace the half that's there...or something.
Instead of placing the triangles this way, the appliques should have been shifted around so no triangle had to be halved. That's a design flaw. Perhaps the factory made the decision.

Here is what the shoes look like on Cami.

In spite of everything, I like the outfit and will be putting it on one of my BJDs.

Agnes Von Weiss Gift Set Saga and Amazing Deja Vu Repaint

It's been pretty quiet doll-wise around here which is not actually a bad thing.

Here's long version of what happened with my pre-ordered High Visibility Agnes Von Weiss Doll Mini Gift Set:
1. The first shipment to me of my two sets were shipped to some location in Delaware. By that time I had heard about the mold and other defective issues people were reporting and I was very wary. I wanted to cancel my order but they would not refund my deposit so I agreed to accept a new delivery.
2. The two new dolls arrived, both with glaring defects. Customer service agreed to replace both giftsets and sent me a return postage label.
3. The third shipment of dolls was worse even though, according to Alain, Percy himself inspected both dolls. One doll had mold down her dress and heaven knows where else. I was afraid to touch the doll. The other doll had a large patch of unrooted hair.

The shipment back to them contained four sets of dolls and I received a full refund.

What a waste of time for me and a sorry state of affairs for them.

Here's hoping that the Fifth Anniversary Poppy Parker Joyous Celebration dolls do not have any issues. They should be arriving any minute.

The most stunning repaint I've ever seen of a Deja Vu doll was posted on Prego today.

This is the work of Leslie at Sands of Fire. She has achieved major realism and depth. The open mouth looks appropriate on this face. She could be Cinderella before being turned into a princess. Beautiful!

There are several other photos of this doll who has been sold to the highest bidder.

2014 Déjà Vu Summer Release

Tonner's Deja Vu doll line has exploded onto the summer doll scene with thirteen items. There are six dressed dolls, six basic dolls and one fashion. The dressed dolls are priced from $169.99 to $199.99.

The basics range from $99.99 to $149.99. The separate fashion is $199.99.

The separate fashion is $119.99.

My personal favorites among the dressed dolls are those styled in the Roaring 20's looks. I like the short-haired basic dolls and the doll in the red bathing suit, but not enough to buy.

I don't know when the following two Deja Vu were introduced but apparently the dressed doll on the left in purple is already sold out and she doesn't ship until 8/11! These dolls remind me so much of Tiny Kitty.

Not quite the same but the sheer coat over floral...

And the red one reminds me of another Tiny Kitty outfit.

After a while, they all start to look like each other.
Maybe I have deja vu.
