Part I. Celebrating my 16" Tonner Dolls with the BW Body

Over the last few years, my 16" Tonner Doll collection has been thinned extensively. The few purchases I've made were fashions that I used to have and regretted selling.
I have begun to catalog my remaining dolls, sorting them by body type. I begin with the 16" BW (bending wrist) Tyler body. It was, of course, used for many characters. In later years, numerous collectors clamored for change to increase the flexibility of the doll and the appearance of the knee joint.

All of these photos were shot with an iPhone X in daylight, some using fill flash.

"Fill flash is a photographic technique used to brighten deep shadow areas, typically outdoors on sunny days, though the technique is useful any time the background is significantly brighter than the subject of the photograph, particularly in backlit subjects."

This doll's hair was originally heat-reactive and would change color when touched. That effect faded away long ago.

This is one of the most highly sought after Tonner doll. Not only is her face the classic beauty, Tyler, but the stunning fashion is also beautifully constructed.
I have given her a BW body.

The colors of the panels change around the back. Just gorgeous!

Here is my own altered version of this doll with her lips and hair changed. She looks much less child-like. Pig tails were not Mod.

On another topic - briefly:

There is something weird about giving a doll FR black vinyl when she has the same Caucasian features as Poppy Parker.  It seems like a shortcut to pleasing black doll collectors.  It was done before with Midas Touch Poppy who turned out much prettier than Sunny Slickers in any case.

Editor's Note: I realize that what I said in the paragraph above was not properly and well thought through. There are no specific "black" features. I did not mean to offend anyone and apologize if I did. I think this Poppy doll is beautiful.

I am aware that Darla, the AA friend of Poppy, was not very popular. It was the face paint and styling that doomed those dolls to be slow selling. Just look at this amazing repaint of a Darla Daley by Laurie Lenz.

A beautiful AA sculpt is there but the presentation is not:

Hit Single Darla

While in London Poppy was asked to be a special guest star on a few episodes of her favorite British Spooky TV series, "Misty Hollows". This was quite an honor, as she had been watching this show back home even before it became cool to do so!

Poppy Parker is dressed perfectly to play the part of the "spooked out" neighbor in this classic British TV series! This absolutely stunning edition of everyone's favorite teenage model comes dressed in a fashionable Victorian inspired Mod dress, complete with lace cravate [sic] and matching ribbon in her hair. Since we couldn't leave our girl in the dark, Poppy also comes with a super detailed miniature candle and holder*, perfect to shine some light on the mystery surrounding the plot she stars in!
Note: *The miniature candle does not light; the pictures below have been digitally augmented.

If I were a Poppy Parker collector, I'd have ordered the two-doll gift set already. Those two dolls are adorable and very different from each other. At $180. the set is a bargain.
I like the FR black Poppy except for her lip color. There is too much contrast between her skin tone and the lipstick. It almost hurts my eyes when I look at her for a long time. I think I'd like a more mature hairstyle for her as well. Her outfit is delightful; I want that umbrella! The striped tights and clear boots are TDF.

The Misty Hollows doll appeals to me and I'm trying to resist her but I may break down and pre-order. She is a direct event exclusive and W Club members can order her through May 17.

Regarding the promotional layout, I admire how Alain has presented the poses for each individual offering into a larger composition. It makes for easier blogging.

Have you ordered your Poppy Parkers yet?

The Gloss Convention Collection

My convention collection has arrived after a nearly 3 week wait. If I ever do this again, I will pay the extra $ to have it picked up at the event and shipped from there. I wonder why, when these collections were ordered and paid for way in advance, they weren't ready to ship immediately upon the end of the event. We are the collectors who bought these dolls blindly trusting that we'd like them. Why should we have to wait so long to get them? Don't give me the overused excuse that Integrity is a small company. They hosted a convention for 500 people and that excuse is still being thrown out to pacify collectors?

There is only one doll from the entire 7-doll convention collection that I'm keeping and that is Natalia. My decision was based on the fact that she is very beautiful, I like the skin tone and I have only one other Natalia at this time.
I don't care for her fashion - it's cheap-looking like most of the other fashions from the event. The fabric is chintzy and the style is just not something that suits me. The cape is attached at the shoulders. In order to get the gown off it has to go over her head.

I had a hard time deciding whether or not I should keep Eugenia. But I already have several other gorgeous Eugenias and if she sells, all the better.  She, too, is a beauty but in less than stellar gown.

The minute I saw the Vanessa, I knew she was not going to join my tribe. I really dislike Vanessa 2.0 and this one's makeup is very harsh. She has a wild look in her eyes.

If I loved Poppy Parker, Dark Moon would stay. She has a very pretty face. Again, I'm not a fan of the outfit but it is Poppy-Era appropriate.

I don't know why this doll is not selling well. My theory is that there are just too many dolls altogether and collectors' funds are being spread thin. The more dolls offered at a convention,  the more money the manufacturer takes in.  The less dolls there are, the higher the value goes on the secondary market. It seems the market has reached it's saturation point.

However, in the case of the Agnes convention souvenir and the Elise centerpiece, the secondary market went way up. No surprise there. So many collectors are crazy about Agnes and she will always be an event exclusive...until they change their minds.

My least favorite of all 7 dolls was Veronique "Nocturnal Glow." There is no glow in this sculpt at all. Poor Vero. They took away the face that launched a line. She looks sad and wistful now. Again, the fabric used for the gown was a cheap-looking black with a metallic gold thread and no discernible style. That humongous bow has to go.

If I weren't keeping Ayumi, I'd consider adding Kyori "Nightshade" to my collection.

I've noticed something strange about these new bodies - besides the fact that they are like pop-it beads,
some of the elbow joints make noise when moved. The elbows are stiff even when warmed.

Simonetta Bertorelli "La Ville Lumiere" is a new addition to the Victoire Roux line. She's OK but is not for me.

My own picture was not available at the time of posting.

The theme, "Gloss," was partly interpreted by the designers by using sparkly and or filmy fabrics in most cases. The fabrics chosen were not good quality and it showed. However, Agnes' gown was stunning and obviously showed a design flair and quality that would have been nice on all the dolls. The hairstyles were long and glamorous and that worked very well.

The Barbie Look Collection

Sigh. It's such a shame. These are cute dolls and if they were articulated they'd be so much fun. They're all called "City Shopper Barbie Doll"  (Blonde, Brunette, ? and ?) Why don't the bottom two have distinctions? Strange.

Some of the clothes look cute and if you don't mind rubbery shoes and velcro, they'll do just fine.
Winter Weekend
Pink on the Green
On The Red Carpet

If you were to purchase all the items in this collection, including the wardrobe, the total would come to $289.45 plus shipping and tax. That's not so bad for four dressed dolls, six accessorized outfits and a wardrobe. It's a nice collection but they could have included a darker skinned doll.
