On the Show & Sell pages it says that there were too many complaints. I have no idea what happened. I am very disappointed. Steve and Rae provided an amazing service and unfortunately some rotten apples ruined it for all of us. If there is a way to change their minds, I would love to know.
The Doll Page is invaluable to me. If there is anything that can be done to change the minds of its owners, I would like to know.
ReplyDeleteContact them. Beg.
DeleteOh that's awful. :(
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed terrible news. Steve I had been in contact with a few times and he is an absolute gentleman. How awful that this has happened. I had heard that spammers had infiltrated the site but this is too awful :(
ReplyDeleteI think they took care of the spammers but I wonder what else happened. It had to be really bad for them to take such drastic action which will affect hundreds of doll collectors. Everyone is freaking out.
DeleteHelp I just tried to log in and it says its closed now. I need to complete a sale with Lisa for the Maria Therese silkstone Barbie. Lisa if you see this please e-mail me at randlkriegbaum@att.net
ReplyDeleteIf it's a side effect of the chinamama scam, I want to personally smack the complainers.
ReplyDeleteI was also taken in by the scammer (got the seller confused in my head with chihuahuamama, who I'd dealt with before), but I put on my big girl panties and filed a PayPal claim. And guess what, the money got returned on Thursday.
I didn't expect anyone to fight my battles for me, and I'll be really annoyed if its because of them that it got shut down.
Congratulations on getting your funds back. Over the last years we've constantly posted about how to avoid being scammed. It's easy to get confused as you did. BUT...you protected yourself by paying through Paypal.
DeleteIt was an amazing site, where I was comfortable to buy and sell dolls, there absence will be a tremendous loss to our doll world.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting eddieboy. I'm hoping they will see these posts and possibly re-consider.
DeleteI too am sad to hear that they are closing and I agree that something really bad must have happened for them to make such a quick decision. They have provided a wonderful service for us hobbyist who just want to sell a few items. I would love to shake their hands and tell them how much I have appreciated their show & sell site. Rita in CA
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will read the posts that are coming in.
DeleteI am so sad for them! I hope they are well in health, etc. I can't log in to the shoutbox or I would tell them best wishes for happiness! They've given a great service to doll collectors everywhere! It reminds me the sad news of Kazue and BIC a few years back... By the way...people are still complaining in the shoutbox. Some of those people would have sent me running a long time ago!
ReplyDeleteDon
Don: I saw those who are still complaining. One of them is a very strange person who thinks it's OK to post pictures of her dolls in Nazi uniforms in military settings. So...she's not all there anyway.
DeleteThank you for your input.
Terri
I am getting many emails filled with sadness and disappointment regarding this closing. People are offering to help in any way. I have no idea what to do except offer my services. Let's see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI was just looking around at my collection and a large number of my dolls were bought from sellers on there. The way I saw it, it was a deal at your own risk site. So I'm not sure why anyone would be complaining to them. It's on you to do an exchange with someone or not. Getting ripped off sucks but you really need to deal with your problems yourself.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to help out somehow in either keeping that site going or starting a new one. I can certainly help with hosting.
This is so sad, so very sad! I can't believe it. I have bought many dolls there, met some great people... and it really upsets me to think they are closing because doll collectors were giving them such a headache.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I feel bad I didn't take the time to write them before to express my gratitude for their hard work, and I do wish them the best from now on.
If there is anything we can do to keep it running, I'm in!
I never really dealt with the Show & Sell site, (what's a shoutbox?) but I've been posting my pictures on the photo site since I began collecting. That's also being shut down, so the problem has to be more than just people complaining about scammers since people don't sell on the photo site, just post their pictures. It's a shame that people are going to lose so many pictures, I'll be saving some of them, but since you can only save 1 picture at a time, I'm just letting them go.

And sorry to bring this up, but it's a hot button subject for me. This is NOTHING like Kazue & BIC. Kauze let people pay for dolls on her web site that she never ordered & then she ran away, kept all the money, & shut down her & her husbands businesses. It was theft, this isn't theft.
Marna: You are right. I am not comparing the service of BIC to the Show and Sell site. I'm just comparing the feeling of receiving the news about a sad loss in the doll community. I, personally, never had a bad transaction with Kazue so I was initially very worried for her. But you are right and I won't mention it again! Don
DeleteThis is both sad and shocking news! Whatever the backstory is, I'm very sad to see the DollPage go. It provided an invaluable service to our community, and Rae and Steve were always so incredibly friendly and helpful in all of my correspondence with them over the years. If this is about the recent changes they made to the Show And Sell site in order to try to protect our community, why anyone would attack them over this is beyond me; they could just as easily have done nothing and let the scammers run rampant, bilking us out of our dolls and our money. Yes, changes are sometimes inconvenient, but I'm sure in time the bugs would have been worked out and we'd have gotten back to business as usual in a hopefully safer venue. If there were anything I could do to help I'd do it. And if there weren't, I would like to let Rae and Steve know how much I appreciated not only their kindness, but the great services their sites provided us collectors.

Like the song says "You don't know what you've got till it's gone".
ReplyDeleteThe Doll Page has been a major resource for me and I had the pleasure of buying a couple of things from Rae over the years.
There have always been scammers and crazies and there always will be....the world somehow keeps on turning and some keep trying to make it better. Thank you to Steve and Rae for a wonderful run.

As always love the blog...just sometimes not so much whats in it.
I´m still in shock. As a spanish collector, discovering the doll page was a thrill! The most beautiful, unreachable dolls finally at my fingertips reach! (at fair prices). I always understood the transactions were done under own risk, the good feedback was always a guarantee... finally, the better discovering were not the dolls, but the people. Caring, loving people who shares my hobby. I understand the administrators are fed up, but I really hope they reconsider their decision. Anyway, I´d like to thank them for so many good moments.
