Too Close For Comfort?

We've seen over and over again how doll designers use runway fashions for inspiration. We've also seen some outright copies. This one is the latter.

Wunderkind Spring 2011 RTW
Go Home, IFDC Convention Souvenir Doll
Wunderkind's Spring 2011 RTW show took place on October 6, 2010 in Paris. That's a 10 month time span to have a doll ready for an early July, 2011 convention. It almost took that long for me to get a replacement head for a doll! Snark, snark.

Have a look at the entire Wunderkind show.  It's wonderful.  I'd like a few more of these fashions for my dolls! Not this one, however.

A Fashionable Life Cissy On Sale at The Toy Shoppe

A Fashionable Life Cissy

This Madame Alexander 21" Cissy is way below the original retail and less expensive than I've seen anywhere. I've been looking at this A Fashionable Life Cissy for a long time. Her outfit is so amazing. Check out her shoes! I want her but she'll have to wait.   An African American version is available at the Doll Market for slightly more.

$229.95 at the Toy Shoppe
Toy Shoppe offers free shipping for MA orders of $50 or more. Use code MA11FREE on your check out form.

Sybarite 3 Day Event: "The Scarlet Ribbon Affaire"

I'd like to be a fly on the wall for this.

In case you are wondering what the currency conversion is: £2265 = $3612.22 = €2570.61

Shuga Shug's Pictures of Restyled Rayna

Go Home went from pig-tailed to gorgeous in these redressed, restyled images by Christina aka Shuga Shug.

You can see more of Shuga Shug's pictures on her Flickr.

No, You're Not Going Blind

I got tired of the black background so I am trying out a simple color scheme for the blog. It's easier to read. I hope you all like it.

For another change of pace, I am posting recent pictures of my Tonner Artemis of Bana Mighdall doll. She is the only 13" Tonner doll I have and unless the sculpt gets "prettied" up, there will not be another. It's not easy getting her to look like a she instead of a he.

Artemis wearing "Spring Romance"

It's not like Robert doesn't know a beautiful face. He's sculpted zillions of them. It's just in the last two years he's got this masculine jaw thing going on. For me, it ruined the Miss Revlon fashion doll to which I was looking forward.

Marcella is pictured here wearing Artemis' original outfit.

Go Home, Go North, Go West, Go Green - Updated

IT released official photographs of the dolls and the fashion they provided for the IFDC event which just took place in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week. All registered guests received the convention souvenir and the table fashion. The other dolls were optional purchases.

Convention Souvenir, Go Home LE300.  New Rayna sculpt. Misaki torso with Vampire Bride legs.

Companion Doll, Go North. LE300. Isha sculpt. Fashion Royalty body.
Salesroom Doll, Go West. LE300. Original Natalia Fatale sculpt. Fashion Royalty body.
Table Gift - Fashion Only.  Go Green LE300
My take on this collection: a lot of thought went into the design and the dolls definitely fit the theme of the event.
The convention doll herself is very Misaki-ish as far as styling. The outfit is cute and girly and I would definitely dress my Misaki dolls in this. She needs a little dog, though. The makeup competes with the outfit for attention.
Go North as the Good Witch is lovely in every way and I would give her a wand.
Go West as the Evil Witch is perfect. Up close her face is hard and harsh. Her fashion is definitely sexy and complex. Very nice.
The fashion looks like it belongs in a St. Patrick's Day parade. Just hand this girl a beer. Who is that prototype anyway? I can't tell the difference between some the dolls anymore. It's like a game of mix and match.

For those who do not know, these are vinyl dolls, 12" tall with rooted hair and painted faces. They have applied lashes and 12 points of articulation.

JAMIEshow St. Tropez Collection Launched by Angelic Dreamz

The brand new JAMIEshow St. Tropez Collection debuted at IFDC this weekend by George Gonzalez of Angelic Dreamz.  It consists of five female dolls including a new sculpt named Grace. The dolls are dressed in bathing suits and Grace is clad is a very sexy fashion. Also included in this collection are (amazing) rooted wig caps, summery outfits, sunglasses, shoes, bathing trunks for the boys and outrageous lounge furniture.

Future posts will cover much of these items in detail with photos.  Stay tuned!

Two of the Most Unattractive Royal Couple Dolls

These are from Paradise Galleries. The sculpts are very poorly executed and there is no resemblance whatsoever. I find it difficult to believe that this is work of their "master sculptor."

Prince William "Royal Wedding" Doll, vinyl, 18" tall, $99.97.

His grin makes me think of the cat that ate the canary.
Princess Catherine - The "Royal Wedding" Doll, vinyl,  17" tall, $99.97.

Paradise Galleries does offer other 'fashion' dolls at half the price that look so much better, including this one of Marie Osmond. I have no idea what the quality of the fashions might be. The dolls are not articulated.

Perhaps a collector out there who has purchased a Sandra Bilotto would fill us in on the details.

Let's All Build a 1/6 Scale Nazi Diorama

In spite of eBay's policy not allowing the listing of Nazi and/or Nazi related replicas, a seller based in Hong Kong is offering a multi-piece German desktop accessory set which includes a bust of Hitler, a miniature Mein Kampf and several other assorted desktop items. Hitler's eyes have been blacked out. I emailed the seller to ask if the bust was Hitler and he responded in the affirmative with several exclamation points after the word YES. He was very happy about that. The winged item is the partially blacked out national insignia of the Third Reich. Yes, girls and boys, you can get educated by playing with Nazi replicas! Oh, fun.

They also listed a desk and chair set but that sold out. From the image I cannot see the insignias on the desk.

You may wish to populate your diorama with this Third Reich character, also selling out of Hong Kong but the seller ID is different:
3R Stands for Third Reich

Their disclaimer:
"This product is for historic education purposes only, and is not intended to glorify, nor exploit the horrors and atrocities of war!"

If we don't speak out, they'll think we don't mind.

Fabulous Furniture From Plaza Mildendo

Recently, another collector posted images of her new wood 1/6 scale armoire that she ordered from Plaza Mildendo. If I weren't busy packing away my dolls, I'd have one by now.  Look at this amazing piece of furniture for only $110. plus shipping.

All images in this post are from Plaza Mildendo's website.

This company is located in Mexico and sells furniture in several different scales including 1/6 and 1/4. Their prices are excellent for this quality and style. They are open to customization as well.

An ornate upholstered chair in 1/4 scale - $130.

Dining Set with 4 Chairs 1/4 Scale - $160.
They are also selling jewelry, clothes and accessories. Have a look.

Buy One Get One Free at Toys R Us - Very Little Remains

In the collectibles category, a few interesting items are still available under the  buy one get one free offer at Toys R Us.

They've been available for a while but at this price, you may want to get a few more of the Dolls of the World - . At two for $39.99 it's a pretty good buy.

On top of that, if you add something to bring your total to $49. or more, shipping is free.

The Cost of Attending A Convention

I've been asked many times how much it costs to attend a doll convention. So I'm going to attempt to put together an outline. There are many  unknowns because each person's costs will vary according to what they buy and participate in.  I am taking the costs of the convention and the convention collection from the 2011 Wu Convention list.

Convention Attendance $380.  You get the souvenir doll and several other dolls and accessories.
Early Bird Welcome Cocktail (Optional) $15.
Transportation
-Airfare: This depends on where you're coming from.
-Taxi-Shuttle Service to and from hotel.
-Gasoline and Tolls if you are driving.
Hotel $139. plus tax per night for up to 4 guests. After taxes are added, the cost per night for a room is probably about $160. If you share, you can reduce your costs by a great deal. $320 +/-
Excursions away from the hotel. (Optional)
W Club Luncheon (Optional) $60.
Food  You get 4 meals. You may want to have other meals and drinks. $50 +/-
Tips (Bellhop, Housekeeping, Porters, etc.)$10 +/-

Room Shopping (Optional)   $200 +/-
Souvenir Store (Optional) $200 +/-
Souvenir T-Shirt (Optional) $18. - $20.

Dynamite Girls Design A Doll$50. per doll.  Everyone gets to attend. No Lottery Required

_Flocking
_Styling
_Doll Process
_Royal Hair
_Poppy's New Groove
_Back to Our Roots (Free Practice Kit)
_Fashion Illustration
Postage  If you are not driving, you will probably want to ship some items home.

I'll throw out a figure which doesn't include transportation or excursions away from the hotel: $2774.55.  It includes some of everything and 4 nights at the hotel sharing with one other person. It could go lower or higher depending upon how many centerpieces you buy and what you spend room shopping and in the store.
The numbers in red above are the numbers I used to get to that figure.

Just one fabulous example of the Fourth of July themed photos that are being posted this week on the doll boards. This one is from Ann in Florida.

My Uncle Sam didn't look like that!

More later.
