"Lavender Luxe" Barbie Doll

The only Silkstone I've purchased this year is "Lavender Luxe."

She is a pretty redhead who reminds me so much of another Silkie I love, The Hostess.
Comparing the two, Hostess is prettier because she doesn't have horrible glitter on her lids and under her eyebrows.
In this photo I have intentionally blurred the under brow area because the glitter looked like she had a disease breaking out.

Although it appears to be a pony tail with giant curls, her hair is only secured with the net. Hostess' hair is a 'pony tail.'

The gown is pretty but still, neither nicely made nor from a finer fabric.
The front is passable. But the back has the kind of poor quality control that is very disappointing.

Silkstones, fading from my collection.

  1. Terri, I LOVE your reviews!!!! You never lie. You make a lot of valid points about the Silkstones. I hope this isn't a bad sign for Mattel. I LOVE the Silkies, but they are losing some important details. Lavender Luxe's back is sloppy and the glitter is tacky. Maybe Robert Best is getting tired, running out of ideas or is working with a smaller budget. The man does beautiful work, but some of it is becoming repetitive. I loved the Little Red Dress, but couldn't help but notice it probably would have really popped with a set of pearls, bracelet, clutch and a compact. Though beautiful, it still drives me crazy that the Boater Ensemble's jacket didn't have a lining. I'm sure there are some limitations behind the scenes that we don't know about. I miss the fact the Silkstones came from the lingerie dolls which came with separate outfits. I miss those days!

    1. Hi Victor...there's no reason to lie. I may not put everything I think into print...
It's a shame because these are the only Barbie dolls I have ever collected. I sold off all my Silkstones at one point and I never really tried to get them back. Every time I think of selling now, there are a few that say "keep me."

  2. Whatever the original vision for the Silkstones was--presumably a return to the glamour and detail embodied by the 1959-1966 Barbies--it no longer is. What you have now are Robert Best's tired whims (the Palm Beach year, the "updates" of the vintage outfits, the Italian fiasco last year, this year's poorer rehashes of previous designs, all those Kens...) that no longer interest. What became of selling the outfits by themselves? I would love to see outfits which would fit in with the original Fashion Shop that are beautifully made and timeless. That ain't been happenin' for a long while.

  3. Wow the back of that dress is a mess. Are they all like that or could you get a replacement ?

The glitter application was not very well done on this girl. Her hair is lovely...

    1. One wouldn't know until the doll was deboxed.

  4. She originally said "Buy me," but then I saw more pictures of her and decided to pass. It looks like that was a good decision. Like itsallpaul, I wish they would sell more outfits by themselves, and also add articulation. That would convince me to buy more Silkstones.

  5. I've been buying older Silkstones, lol. I did miss out on that Russian Mila. Oh, well, still like the older silkstones. I don't like the white skin tones of some of the last ones. Don't like pale skin tones.

    1. No. Perhaps you're confusing the other redhead which I showed so people could see the similarities.
