Vanessa

Throughout the years of my blogging, I have written about how I love Fashion Royalty Vanessa. When the 'designers' over at IT started messing with her face, they caused problems for those of us who loved her original big-eyed, open mouth look. One doll that appeared at the end of the convention in 2011 was an FR2 Vanessa called Evermore. She was just a little more popular than her very unpopular gown, many of which can hardly be given away.
Her eyes were slitty and her hair was designed in an unbalanced, off center bird's nest swirl. Not terrible but very hard-looking and not how I want my Vanessas to look.
I took the nest out and cut it off in an impulsive moment. Fooling around produced this silly look. It was fun.
Her pointy head hung around in a drawer until a few months ago when I sent her to be rerooted. Then she hung around even longer waiting to be styled.

This was my first attempt at doing a wrapped pony tail. I used a lot of Got-To-Be-Glued hair product to hold the wrap in place. I do not understand how people use pins to hold hair in place. Pins are straight (usually) and the hair just flops around them. Obviously there is a lot about hair styling I have yet to learn.

Here's my gal now.

Much better. But I really should have her eyes repainted. Sigh.

  2. Gorgeous. I actually like her tiny slit eyes. It makes her look cold & hard, which is a plus for me.

Did you wrap the strand of hair you used to cover the rubber band back under the rubberband on the bottom of the wrap? That's how you get it to stay in place without the glue. I usually loop he rubber band 2 or 3 times, depending on the rubber band. You have to use a finger nail, or toothpick to pull on the loop under the wrap so you can strech it enough to thead the strand of hair through.

    1. No. I did not do it that way. Sounds difficult.

  3. i use pins to anchor hair...like with the topknot, it keeps in place while you are working...if it wouldn't destroy the style, you could remove them afterwards...

also, pins can make excessive glue redundant.... i'd practice on a cheap doll though

  4. Someone (I can't remember who) told me an easy way to wrap a ponytail. Take a piece of hair from the ponytail, wrap it around the rubber band, & then use a large needle like an upholstery needle to "sew" the ends of the hair into the ponytail. Just thread the end of the hair in the needle & push the needle under the rubber band at the base of the ponytail at the back. Pull it through the ponytail, & the hair will be tightly wrapped & the loose end will be mingled with the rest of the ponytail.

    1. That's interesting. I've sewn hair but I've used thread to secure the hair, not the hair itself. I think threading the needle with hairs would be quite the challenge.

    2. No, that's why you need a big needle. The one I use is about 2 1/2 inches long & thick, even the tip is pretty blunt. The eye is large & it's very easy to thread the hair through.

    3. Sounds like the type of needle I used to use with school children.
