Aristocratic Baroness Agnes and Vice Effect Ollie

Two W Club Upgrade dolls arrived today.
Up first we have a pony-tailed blonde Agnes dressed in a belted summer sheath in a black and off-white print. The neckline has a very lovely gathered detail with a tiny button at the center. I really love the fabric and can't decide if they're butterflies or bows.
This Agnes doesn't look as miserable as most other Agnii. Her glance is straight forward. The color of the vinyl sets off her rosy cheeks and bright red lips. The eyeliner wings and the beauty mark are not my taste. I like the hairstyle with its pulled to the back side parted hair and only the slightest hint of a hair bump.

Her accessories include black patent spike heels, a red clutch purse, "gloved" replacement hands and large oxidized pewter earrings. I like them. They're small compared to these things.

Included as well is a black straw hat. I think it's a bit awkward looking. Does it add some positive quality to the ensemble?
When removing the dress I was very surprised to find that the straps which go over the shoulders are attached to the back of the dress with velcro. Has that ever occurred in a FR fashion? I don't think so. It lays flat so the look is good. The problem comes about when it starts grabbing the doll's hair it it's tiny velcro teeth. I hate that.
The clutch has a strap at the front which the doll can slip a hand into to hold. Yay. Finally. Ashton Drake used to use elastics & other devices which the doll could use to hold accessories. Very useful.

Vice Effect Ollie is one of the coolest 'homme' dolls produced by Integrity. With his light blue sport jacket, baby blue slacks, pink henley t-shirt, sunglasses, watch and ivory boat shoes he is dressed to kill or possibly to hunt killers.
VE Ollie is the very incarnation of the suave undercover detective, James "Sonny" Crockett,  played by Don Johnson on the television series "Miami Vice" in the 1980's.

The doll's hair is a bit too blonde but in every other respect, they look quite similar. I've got to get his hair down a bit. It's too thick and puffy and there is too much stiffener.
Ollie's jacket and slacks are constructed from beautiful fabrics with great details. He became a favorite immediately! The girls love him.

Did you get either of these dolls?

  1. D'oh... I totally missed the homage of "Vice Effect", I feel like a fool. :) (I'm a bit too young to remember Miami Vice well, but I remember being allowed to stay up late enough to watch the intro/theme song. So cool!)

I did get Agnes! I was so excited to find she was one of the upgrade dolls. I'm not super in love with her RED lipstick, but it works as part of the look. I'm also a bit baffled by the hat. It doesn't seem to work well with that hairstyle. (I thought the dress print was butterflies -- bows didn't occur to me! :) )

    1. Isn't it great when you love a doll? I hope I feel that way about the rest of the dolls that are coming down the pike.

  2. Ollie looks a bit too boyish for me. He is missing Don Johnson's spunk and rugged manliness. He is just too plain and....young. Like he just turned 20 or something. I wish they also had done a better job with his 5 o'clock shadow or slight beard...more stubbly and less painted-on-with-a-stencil look. I was considering getting him on second market but am not encouraged by the IRL images.

Agnes is gorgeous but there seem to be wonky eye and one eye smaller, one bigger issues. I dont know how patient care is going to do that with a doll for 1600 edition size where a large portion seem to have that issue.

    1. Thank you for your comments. I do agree about the beard. It's not realistic at all. It's the clothes that are the best feature of this doll. But he's staying.

  3. I passed on both- Ollie just wasn't my style. I thought Agnes was really pretty, but just not special enough to get. Her dress is very simple, and her accessories small, basic and uninspired. The hat is totally random and not cute. Such a strange choice too- makes me wonder if the designers had a different hat picked out- but they swapped it for this one to meet a certain price point...

    1. Sometimes the designer doesn't know when to stop.

  4. Hi Terri,

I did order Agnes but she hasn't arrived yet. Hmmm...yes....I don't like hearing about that Velcro. And, I haven't bought other FR that did. I hate velcro with a purple passion. If I start seeing that show up, it will seriously impact my buying dressed dolls. I would just go for the nude FR dolls. I like her makeup because it makes her less dour. LOL I don't collect the Agnes dolls with the nude lipstick....it just makes it worse :)

    1. I hope they don't start using it often. We'll see with the rest of the dolls.

  5. Agnes and Ollie both made their way onto my shelves last week.

This is my first Agnes, and I am very pleased with her. There's been a lot of talk about her eyes not being symmetrical, but I have to say it doesn't bother me. One of the benefits of not being particularly artistic, probably. Her dress fabric feels rich, and it is even lined. I saw the pattern as bow ties, but it could be butterflies. The only downside for me was that one earring came undone rather easily, and the spacer disappeared. I fixed it temporarily with some thread, but now they aren't the same length. I'll need to see if I can find two spacers that are the same size for a more permanent fix. The hat fits in with the outfit for me, but not with the hairstyle. It doesn't fit nicely because of the ponytail.

I almost didn't order Ollie, but now I'm glad that I did. He is much more dashing in person than pictures capture. One change I would make to him is to allow the pink shirt to unbutton like the picture with Don Johnson. It's a more engaging look. His hair does need to be tamed a bit, and it looks better now than when it arrived.

I take it you didn't order Poppy? That line in general wasn't a favorite, because sometimes the sculpt comes across as sour. She's getting me to warm up to her more, though, and Groovy Galore is standing next to VE Ollie; they make a nice couple for now. I'm not overly thrilled with the "Wizard of Oz" shoes (although they are gold instead of red in the movies or silver as in the book, but you get the picture). And more hoop earrings. But I like her hair color and face, and she is going to redress well.

    1. Hi Troy: I did order two Poppy dolls but they're not shipping yet. I didn't notice anything wrong or off with Agnes' eyes until yesterday when I read about it on the W Club board. I'm glad I don't go there very often. I don't get swayed by the opinion of the 20 or so people who always post. When I looked closely, I saw that the shape of the eyes are different. It's in the sculpt IMO so there's no way around it except to have someone repaint an eye for you. It's a good thing that it doesn't bother you. This wave of criticism will pass and she'll be loved. Did you see her with her hair out of the pony tail. I read that she is fully rooted!
