Who remembers the Monsieur Z dolls of 2005? I thought about them the minute I saw the gift set. I still have Fly Girl's serving tray with the carafe and cups.

This is an adorable gift set and the Poppy is super pretty. But I just can't get over the pricing on these. How can this giftset with all the extras and two sets of outfits and a big round bag and all be 150 and the centerpieces at the convention be 150 as well? And they had nothing on them - no bags, no purses, no extras - just an empty accessory tray with a pair of earrings and necklace maybe. . They were glorified ITBEs essentially. It just seems so random. I assume 150 was a way for IT to recoup the cost of the "free" dolls (while at the same time having increased the convention fee and cut corners in a lot of areas). But still. The pricing seems kind of arbitrary. I can see this set being worth 150 or 160, but not the centerpieces.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind the doll, but I'm not into mod & would never use any of the clothes. I don't want to get the set & then try to get rid of the clothes, so I guess I'm going to pass & maybe if the doll or her head pop up somewhere for a reasonable price, I'll think about getting her.

DeleteI adore this giftset except for the weird earflap hat thing she has going on her head. The boots are ok, I get it they are mod. Not too crazy about them. I guess since it's mod they had to put in a pair of boots with the set. That hat just reminds me what hunters wear during hunting season only in weird colors. I adored the dolls outfits in 2005 but not the dolls themselves, they had too odd of a look about their facial expressions but their outfits were so well made. I've seen people put these outfits on the Poppys and use them with the vintage Barbie airplane playsets from the 70's in dioramas, it looks quite realistic.
ReplyDeleteThat hat is what Braniff flight attendants used to actually wear back when the airline was in business. All their costumes were designed by Pucci. He used "space age" themes, including plastic Space Helmets and Bolas (as dubbed by Pucci) Just consider ourselves lucky they dont come with those rain domes that were to be worn between the terminal and the plane to prevent hairstyles from being disturbed by outside elements. Though that would have been fun too.
DeleteThere is a special place in my heart for Mod dolls and clothing, because that was what was available when I was young. My cousin's older ponytails and Fashion Queen were glamorous, but not as fun as Mod Barbie and Francie. This Poppy hits that sweet spot, so I entered the lottery. Plus, she has short hair and bangs, which we don't see very often (I also scooped up Pencil Me In Eugenia). Here's hoping that the lottery luck is shining on me for her, as I'm sure the secondary market prices will be much higher.
