In spite of eBay's policy not allowing the listing of Nazi and/or Nazi related replicas, a seller based in Hong Kong is offering a multi-piece German desktop accessory set which includes a bust of Hitler, a miniature Mein Kampf and several other assorted desktop items. Hitler's eyes have been blacked out. I emailed the seller to ask if the bust was Hitler and he responded in the affirmative with several exclamation points after the word YES. He was very happy about that. The winged item is the partially blacked out national insignia of the Third Reich. Yes, girls and boys, you can get
educated by playing with Nazi replicas! Oh, fun.
They also listed a desk and chair set but that sold out. From the image I cannot see the insignias on the desk.
You may wish to populate your diorama with this
Third Reich character, also selling out of Hong Kong but the seller ID is different:
|
3R Stands for Third Reich |
Their disclaimer:
"This product is for historic education purposes only, and is not intended to glorify, nor exploit the horrors and atrocities of war!"
If we don't speak out, they'll think we don't mind.
Am I dreaming???? :(
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting debate. I'm sure WWII diorama artists would argue on the side of realism. And as someone who doesn't believe Barbie causes eating disorders, I don't really see this being harmful. Anyone who is a nazi will be one and no one who isn't would become an anti-semite as a result of this item. As an African American I don't have a problem with confederate soldier dolls, even if they had like a whip and a noose. Now if they start making dolls of emaciated Jewish captives then I'll raise hell with you.
ReplyDeleteSo begins another looooooong period of ANOTHER round of the Dark Ages. Damned if I'll be around for the Renaissance, Part Deux!!! So much for enlightenment.
ReplyDeleteGood for having your super heroes & villains team up to nuke Hitler's office playset?
ReplyDelete@Debbie: I never thought of it that way. Good idea!

DEBBIE! LMAO! The Chinese have been proven to do or sell anything for money. I have heavily been involved in animal rights for well over a decade [online once I discovered a computer] Indigenous rights and human rights. Chinese thought nothing of making the animal snuff films because people would pay [the sicko fetishers] and would go as far as possible if more money was involved. Without any logos the desk looks cool but I really can't imagine anyone wanting such diorama any more than Stalin accessories or Pol Pot!!!
ReplyDeleteI also didn't know that about ebay policy, I have run into nazi crap when I was looking for vintage metal buttons and badges! now I know I can hit report button
ReplyDeleteNazi Diorama is not alone, Hottoy even released Hitler figure.
ReplyDeleteI thought about this for a couple of days before responding. It's 2:30am and I am watching yet another WWII PBS special. Over the past year I have been an avid studier of everything historical, but I am constantly drawn to WWII, Hitler, and Auschwitz. As an AA woman, most of what I learned started with The Diary of Anne Frank. That was just not enough to know the extent of hatred that a person like Hitler could harbor. I am not a fan of wiping out the bad parts of history. I think they should be studied so as not to be repeated EVER again. Through my study of the Jewish history, I discovered that something similar, but definitely not to the level of a Holocaust, happened back in the 1500s. It started again with being required to carry papers. The good people have to always be a step ahead of the bad people, and this requires knowing the history to see the signs. Being required to carry ID papers has been a sign in other genocide and enslaving events as well. Look at Rwanda and apartheid in South Africa. I live in Georgia, where they just passed a new immigration law regarding Mexican immigrants. Supposedly it's to stop the influx of all illegal immigrants, but they are not fooling anyone. Part of this law involves being able to produce papers anytime your are asked to. Hello! This has always been the start of something really bad. IMO, I think all of us who have seen our ancestors go through this singling out, need to stand up and say ENOUGH! But when we don't know the history, Hitler included, we are more prone to have it repeat itself. It's not enough for just the Jewish people to know the extensive history of the Holocaust. It is not enough for just the Black people to know the history of being enslaved and being thought of as property. We ALL have to know the history of each other. AND we can't turn out backs when we see injustices happening to others. Hitler himself is dead and gone. Yes we know what he looks like. Do we know what the next Hitler looks like? Can we see the warning signs before we get in a position where millions of people are killed or enslaved?
ReplyDelete@Vanessa: Thank you so much for your thoughtful and chilling post. Your warning and reminder are profoundly true and important. Sadly it's already happening again. It never really ended. Tragic.
