These dolls disappeared quickly. They were scheduled to go live at 6AM Pacific Time. That would be 9AM my time but they were gone before that. I hate the Barbie.Com website. Either their site crashes or they don't stick to schedules. Really messed up!
I would have ordered one just for the pieces of the outfit I like.
Their faces and bodies are turn-offs IMO.
The retail price of these Gold Label dolls was $150. Gold Label editions are 25,000 or less. Must have been a lot less to have disappeared so quickly.

I was told the AA doll was limited to 700 while 2000 of the Caucasian version was available in all markets; obviously not enough dolls of either.

Thank you for that info. I think it was crazy to make so few.
Deletegood fucking grief.....150 dollars for this piece of garbage? Plastic shoes and non articulated? I don't know if i should feel sad for the people who paid 150 for this or the people who are paying 300 to 400 for her on ebay. Speak of wasting your money. I agree, I would like to have used some of the individual pieces but not at this price tag.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly couldn't be any clearer about how you feel. LOL.
DeleteAnd bought, your pitty not required Poppy for how people choose to spend their money. When I was a little boy all I wanted was Superstar Barbie. I don't even collect Barbie, but Moschino just came home... #andimnotsorry
DeleteIt's your choice Erick, how you spend your money, of course. I do love the Superstar Barbie sculpt myself, grew up with it, still have my vintage dolls, even bought a lot of the repros with that face over the past few years - all for under 50 bucks. 150 for this one just seems way out of the ballpark for me. At first I honestly thought it was a mistake, I had to refresh the page and focus on the zeros. I had considered buying her and thought she was gonna sell for 39.99.
DeleteI love her. I'd have paid for her. And might would but her secondary market. She is EXACTLY what Jem should have been. See as a child of the 80's, Moschino Barbie looks JUST like the dolls of my childhood. Bent armed, big topknot banana curled hair, Superstar Face! Ugh the more I write the more I long for her. Hell I wish they made her with the Miko sculpt.
ReplyDeleteShe's perfection to a certain generation.
I'm personally tired of 'articulation this and articulation that'. That will NEVER be Barbie. How many times does Robert Best have to say, Barbie ha a mannequin, it's almost pointless to take her out of the box, they sew them in to create a look. If collectors want articulated dolls with working shoes, but IT if they want Barbie, then buy her and love her. Or shut up... Seriously. Sorry to rant Terri, but it sucks to hear collectors continually abuse on Mattel and Barbie.
No apologies necessary, Erick. Like I said, I would have bought one, too. I may not be a fan of the body but every so often one of the Barbies comes along that I'd like to add to my collection. This was one but it's not going to happen.
DeleteThis is not the first time they have reproduced the Superstar face, you know? I mean just recently we had the Dream Date Barbie repro with that face - and more authentic looking to the original sculpt than her actually. And there was the actual Superstar repro that came out a few years ago (the gitfset with the pink gown from the 1977 doll). The original dolls from the 80s can still be found online at great prices too.
DeleteAnd I don' care what Robert Best says, that doesn't mean she isn't overpriced for what you are getting. I would have gotten some of the outfits too but what am I paying $150 for? The doll itself isn't worth more than 15, so it is mostly for the name Moshino. Well that is not the kind of money I am willing to spend and I'm certainly not gonna shut about about it...
In other news, but somewhat related, Made To Move Barbie arrived from Amazon today. My oldest daughter is in love with the articulation. My son loves it, too. My youngest daughter hasn't seen her yet--but I think she'll be in love as well. I think articulation is important to many collectors and people who pose and play. I mean, this Barbie poses like a dream. She has weight to her as well. Those poses are held. The double jointed elbows and knees look no worse than some of the high end fashion dolls, in my opinion. For $14.99 they are a steal. The have smaller shoulders, smaller bust, and wider hips and thighs--I think. My point, if there is one, is that Mattel seems to be making more variety for their customers. The next Look dolls seem like they will have articulation and, isn't there a rumor that Silkstones will be articulated soon? Don
ReplyDeleteDon, that's good to know about the Made to Move Barbies. I think it's better for kids to have dolls that can pose realistically rather than standing like statues. Yes, there will be an articulated Silkstone.
