Jamieshow Demi-Couture Ginny

In a fit of "I need another doll" impulsivity, I ordered Demi-Couture Ginny (aka Ginnie.) She is a 12" resin ball-jointed doll.  The 12" Jamieshow BJDs made their debut appearance a few years ago but their face sculpts were not well received and they did not do well.

The three current offerings, Grace, Eshe and Ginny are 1/6 scale replicas of the full-sized Jamieshow dolls of the same name. Just like their larger counterparts, they come with a rooted wig cap and a bald wig cap. A small version of the Jamieshow doll stand is included as well.

These dolls went on sale for $191.99 recently. The sale ends at midnight on 1/11/14.
If you have Silkstone dolls, you have seen the prices skyrocket for regular releases. That made me think that this price was reasonable for a doll with joints that actually move in more than one direction. BTW Silkstone is resin.

Also available on sale is a special Grace doll, expressive hands and some shoes.

I've had one of these Demi bodies for a while and was using it with a Liz Taylor Silkstone head.

When I took Liz out of a showcase to photograph her with Ginny, I was dismayed to find that she had become very, very kicky in her hip joints. It was almost impossible to keep her upright for this photo so she is posing partially sitting. Her knees and arms are fine. I will have to wire her hip and upper legs to correct this issue.

In my photos of Ginny, she is wearing a wig that I had in my collection because her wig was frizzy and unkempt looking. I've heard that washing it out helps. It's either the fiber being used or it's being over-heated during styling. I've had this problem with every other non-bun/non-updo Jamieshow wig cap.  It happens with other manufacturer's dolls as well on occasion. Straight styles and updos are fine. It only happens when the fibers have been over-processed. As a photographer, I pay attention to the appearance of hair. It drives me crazy when I can't tame a wavy hairdo properly. There's curly and there's messed up.

Ginny is wearing Barbie (Louboutin) shoes just to illustrate that their foot size is almost exactly the same. Barbie's is a tiny bit smaller. FR2 shoes would be too large. Original FR shoes will fit as will  FR clothes from the second body. (That would be the first articulated body before they went to the first tall body. ) Of course there will be other clothes that fit depending upon their cut.

I recommend buying one or more of these demi dolls now while the price is right.

  1. The 12" Ginnie joined my "collective" a while ago, and I really enjoy her. She has a lovely face and skin tone, and having a poseable resin doll this size is great. It's not much more than the prices FR commands on the secondary market, so I thought she was worth it. The very basic cocktail dress came off right away, and she donned a gorgeous Dressmaker Details outfit. I am so glad that JS designed the body and feet to be compatible with Barbie dolls.

Eshe's eyes being practically closed doesn't appeal to me, so I passed on her. However, I took advantage of the sale to give the 12" Grace a try. I do enjoy dolls with wigs as it makes them so much more versatile for play!

    1. I redressed mine a little while ago...busy processing photos now. I saw a repainted Eshe - a big one - and this artist really brought out the sculpt's beauty. Sometimes you never know.

  2. I have Demi Eshe and think she is wonderful. I was worried about ordering her too, as I had seen some pics with not so nice eyes, and while mine still has a 'sexy' squint, she is fine, The only issue I had with my doll were the shoes that came with her were HUGE and would not fit any 1/6 scale doll, I think there was a mistake in that instance...the stands are the same as the big girls without the logo. I ordered Ginnie and look forward to adding her to my collection. At regular price of $275 usd and shipping and taxes, I wish the future dolls have more interesting and detailed fashions...some of the bigger girls have had great fashions so I know JS has a talented team...for that price I would like more. While the dress was 'cute' and the slip on shoes ok, I think that they can do better. Overall, lovely dolls. Now if only George would do some demi men !!!!!! I think they would be sold out in days!

  3. Terri, thank you for your wonderful blog that I just came across. I have been a fashion doll collector for well over 15 years now. I like the 12” dolls as opposed to the larger ones, probably because these were the ones I played with as a child. In 2011, I purchased the original JS 12” Demi dolls; Margot, Isabella, and the replacement demi body to be able to switch doll heads with. I was disappointed with this one, because I cannot seem to find a way to keep the head on the replacement body (Terri, is there a way?). I recently purchased JS Demi Doll “Grace” (and of course, they went on sale 30 days later, UGH!). I love the artistic faces of these dolls compared to the original ones so much more. As “Anony” stated above, I wish George and JS would create some male dolls and more clothing items for the demi collection. I have recently started “staging and posing” the dolls for pictures, and I’m enjoying this greatly. Although I must say, I MUST start limiting my purchases, JS and Integrity dolls are NOT cheap. From one doll lover to another, thank you for the kinship and for your wonderful blog.

    1. Which head are you trying to keep on a Demi body.

  4. Terri, It was recommended to me that when these joints get "kicky" like that you want to pull on the joint. Take both arms and pull outward a bit and do the same with each leg. They seems to adjust the tension on the strings.
