The 22" line got one of my favorite characters, Poison Ivy. Although I do not like her green vinyl, she looks very dramatic. The red hair is stunning, so is the price!

DeeAnna Denton, Cami, Jon, Antoinette, The American Model and Patsy fill up most of the rest of the offerings. Sydney and Tyler make brief appearances.
The dressed Sydney leaves me speechless. If I were her mother I wouldn't let her out looking like this. The fascinator is described thus: Red fascinator with faux flowers, rhinestones, and veil. I detest faux flowers on doll clothes.

Terri, I thought the exact same thing about Tyler. Tonner gives her a slinky hairdo, and the dress........ baby bump???? Looks like Tonner tweaked the MM face paint a bit. I did get a cheap doll off-board, and she is much better in person. Better from a distance.
ReplyDeleteFunny- Tonner does a great job on a male sculpt (Nicholas Hoult), but NOW I have to pay a repainter to REMOVE the ghoul stuff off him, LOL!!! No, he's fine, really. Love his eyes.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the Sydney dress. She looks like a beautiful doll, but the hat and dress together are just too much. The hat would have worked better with either a simple sheath cocktail dress or a long, sleek gown.
I understand wigs are easier (and probably less expensive) to produce that rooted dolls, but I just think they're overdoing it on having so many wigged basic dolls. I am biased, because I prefer rooted dolls.
I wasn't overwhelmed by the collection, but I did see some must-have outfits and maybe a doll or two. My favorite is A Day Away. Love that coat!. The new asian girl Liu Liu is really adorable so I may have to add her as well.
I never even thought about the cost possibly being lower when using wigs. You may be right. I like wigs when they're made we'll.
DeleteAs an amateur photographer, I'm surprised they released the photos of Basic Tyler & Sydney. It's clear they photoshopped the wigs over whatever the prototype dolls had originally, and did it poorly. Sydney's bangs are shorter than Tylers and the color is odd/fake. Tyler's wig is badly done and is missing a chunk off the side of her face!

The problems I see with the ballerina - glare/shine, stray hairs and a crooked hairline - one ear is nearly covered, the other is exposed.
Photo correction- I'm betting on reflections on the dolls face and shadow. Possibly color?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if there was a difference between the 2013 Oz Glinda and the original. I have the first doll and she did come with the same necklace as shown on the 2013 version. I agree that she is a pretty doll, and the only one that I kept from the Oz group that lived here at one time.

I have the same Glinda as you, I think she debuted in 2005. The Billie Burke Glinda, and Margaret Hamilton version of the Wicked Witch of the West came out later...maybe 2009. All three of the Glinda outfits look the same to me. Maybe the difference between the 2013 Glinda and the 2005 Glinda is in the skin tone, old Tyler skin tone vs standard Tyler skin tone? I don't keep track of all the tones, so I'm just guessing.
