The not-so-newsworthy info is out. Mattel is really going to make Kardashian Barbie dolls. They will be Barbie pals. According to a Mattel source, "The dolls will reflect the girls' measurements and may even come in Kardashian-designed outfits."
Does that mean they will be short, have big thighs, huge chests and dress inappropriately? Gawd. These girls are not role models; they are a greedy bunch of media whores. I would rather look at anorexic runway models and I can't stand them either.
Can it get any worse?
Some comments from readers on one news site are interesting to read:
-Not-so-ironically, the Mattel toys will have higher IQs than the K sisters.
-Disgusting!!! I am a barbie collector and Barbie's name should not be
mixed with trash. Barbie is a doll that every girl has the last thing we
need is young girls buying these dolls specially with the Kardashian's
trashy history, Kim's sex tape etc, we don't need that kind of trash
feeding young girls, I am very disappointed in Mattel for even
considering this.
Everyone against this should write an email to the Mattel Head Quarters
to voice their opinion. I will surely be doing so shortly. The
Kardashian's need to vanish from this planet they are as low as anyone
can get. Disgusting...
-Well POOR Barbie. So much for her reputation. What does this say to
young girls growing up.. Start your career with a SEX Tape & you can
be just like me. Just watch me scam people.
-this is why the world is going to hell.
-Plastic - Marked by artificiality or superficiality; synthetic: a plastic world of fad, hype, and sensation!
-Mattel is hurting that much in sales that it needs to take the low road? Shame on them!
-Another company for the boycott list. I will never ever buy anything Kardashian
-Ok. It said Barbies, but what about that transgender in the middle? They
should make a Ken for that man in heels. And why make dolls after a
person who got peed on?

Seriously, think about this: Mattel decides to make dolls from this unholy trio yet cancels the Silkstone Palm Beach Ken doll. Yes, I'm still pissed over that one.
This is a riot:

ReplyDelete"Trashy Media Whores."
Reminder to self - Do NOT tick Terri off, she has a wicked way with words! :^D
Oh boy, here we go...LOL. I'm actually surprised it took them this long to come up with this ridiculous idea. The comments are very funny but the last one put me in stitches, LOL. Well, if nothing else, this is great comic relief.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this one Terri.
@miladyblue: LOL I didn't make that expression up.

LOL! I bet once these dolls come out, the Tokidoki doll will be all but forgotten.
ReplyDeleteI'm no fan of the Kardashians - I think they are vapid, self-absorbed bitches. That being said, I am, first and foremost, a Barbie collector and I will still buy the dolls IF, and only if, I like them enough. In the end, I don't care who they're modeled after as long as I like the style, and I guarantee there are plenty of people out there saying they'll never buy them, but I bet many of them will.
It will be interesting to see what they look like.
I'm glad Robert Tonner has more taste and class than to try to get licensing for this bunch!
ReplyDeleteOf course, if he did, we could always coat the paperwork with catnip, and unleash Kitty for a snack... she could probably use the fiber.
@miladyblue: You're cracking me up. I appreciate your strange humor.

That was really mean of that person to call middle on transgendered. She's the best of them, you know. Though it's not that hard. I dislike the Kardashians too but wasn't Barbie originally based on Bild Lili, an adult porn-y doll? She's returning to her roots! :) Look if your kids know the Kardashian girl made a sex tape, you have bigger problems, my friends! [but as a personal opinion: Ew.]
ReplyDeleteI second anonymous, even tho i dont think parents should buy it to lil girls, i have no problem about having mattel doing them as collectors for adults.. some people like madonna and she is a f**** h*** !
ReplyDeleteI kinda find weird, from an outside point of view ( meaning non american), to see people critizing products so much ( i am not pointing you out tho) like i remember the barbie basics issues with one dress that was too plongeon for some moralistic people tastes..
i value creativity ( maybe they could do a white trash lines to go with it ! we would have paris barbie, britney barbie and my fav lindsay lohan !!!!)
but if the dolls are nice and have more curvy figures, i would go for it ! i am tired of the politically correct and the skinny legs lol and truly if the parents dont wanna buy that, they shouldnt, it is of their responsability and not of the company, after all there is nothing from about being a h** and a media s**** ( i love using those terms lol)
I agree with several posts here.....how many people actually purchase "celebrity" dolls due to morality. Think of other "celebrity" dolls Mattel has done well with, over the years, and they certainly didn't have "squeaky-clean" reputations. Didn't stop people buying them though. I wonder how many people getting so riled up about these dolls, own a Marilyn Monroe doll, or an Elvis doll, I could go on and on. I guess sleeping with married men, being a drug addict, is nicer than idiots that are good at marketing? I wonder...
ReplyDeleteThis is the worst idea Mattel has ever come up with.
ReplyDeleteThink of all that plastic gone to waste. Then even more to make the Kardashian sisters dolls!!!! With this still struggling economy, you'd think Mattel could come up with something more (I was going to use "uplifting", but that may truly be a bad word choice here- let's say "inspirational". Or OMG!!! FUN!!!!)
ReplyDeleteCount down to the mark-down bins begins....9.....8.....7.....
And I agree with you on the cancellation of the Silkstone Palm Beach Ken!!!
Could this be a hoax? I couldn't find anything official from Mattel.
ReplyDeleteThis really disgusts me, I hope it isn't true. Barbie is meant to be a role model to girls (even though she's also great at giving us eating disorders), I hope mothers don't want their kids to grow up and be rich spoiled party girls. I've never watched their show but I know enough from news & talk from others that I would never touch one of these dolls.
ReplyDeleteIs the Paris Hilton doll next? ;)
ReplyDeleteThe only problem I have is why is everyone a celebrity or so call talented. I recalled that the stars used to be a much more selective class, but nowadays anyone is a "Star". It's what's really disappointing. Mind you I have a Kimora Lee doll, but not a fan of the actual individual, just bought it for the doll being Asian (and doens't really look like the celeb anyways).
ReplyDeleteI think the best way to protest is not to buy it and see it flop.
Kris Kardashian Jenner is a smart cookie managing the family business. While I am not a fan I am not a hater either. Khloe is average height, her sisters are very short (not petite). The dolls will probably be a hit just as the show is.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to buy these dolls!!! If nothing else these are going to sell well on ebay! It is limited after all. These are probably for adult collectors. So, the parents or even people who are hurting because of this needs to take a chill pill. If you don't like it DON'T BUY IT!!! Let the rest of us buy them! Kim did tweet Barbie and she tweeted back. So I don't think this is a hoax. But if it is then that is great publicity! We are all talking about them. I would so love a Paris Hilton doll!!! Also Nicole Richie!! I love her!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for any future children Kim K has...can you imagine being a 10 year old boy and having the other boys tell you they have seen your stuff in a nasty video..she really is no better then a prostitute..don't prostitutes make their living off their T & A...that's Kim -her claim to fame is her sex tape and her big azz ---which she sticks out in photo's every chance she gets. And lord knows what that big azz will look like when she's 55

Signing a petition to get rid of the Kartrashians is not the answer. If you want to get rid of this trash, then collectively email any and all sponsors of their program and let them know you will boycott their products. Email Mattel and advise them you will no longer purchase any of their toys. BOYCOTT THE SPONSORS. Once retailers start losing money, then maybe we will see an end to this vapid, self-absorbed and morally bankrupt family.
ReplyDeleteJuicy post, Terri. Love reading your readers’ opinions. Like Anonymous (9:52 pm) I am neither a fan nor a hater and would purchase them if they are appealing and not an ugly caricature like the Farah Fawcett doll. Questions dangling: If Mattel actually produces a new body type to “reflect their measurements” how hard will it be to dress them? Because, what’s the point of a fashion doll if you can’t find clothes (i.e., Rosie O’Donnell doll that never had fashions produced to fit her stout figure). I read that the Kardashians will sell limited edition fashions (named Dash) in their boutiques but am concerned they will be difficult to acquire for most, thus leading to a buying frenzy that drives prices up? I have no energy for that – one of the reasons I enjoy Mattel collecting is for the ease. I’m glad when Mattel produces something interesting for the adult collector. Like you said, this is a riot.
ReplyDeletepalm beach ken fiasco is why i stopped by mattel products.
ReplyDeletemy money is green, even if i'm 2nd class to them. i'll use it where i'm equal, not a subhuman.
this is an engineered stunt for publicity, it would not shock me if it never got made.
I am saddened by the decision by Mattel to manufacture these dolls, if true. Can anyone go through the quagmire of the various Mattel sites and find an actual person or department to e-mail about this decision?
ReplyDeleteI think a short Barbie doll with big thighs and wide hips is hot! I just don't want it to have Kardashian attached to it.
ReplyDelete@Debbie G - I'm quite sure Paris Hilton has already had a doll fashioned after herself.
ReplyDeleteTo everyone - Ryan Seacrest is the Producer of all the Kardashian shows. He puts them on his E! shows and all the Kardashian shows are on the E! channel. Write to Ryan Seacrest and tell him what you think if you don't like them. He is the one responsible for constantly generating Kardashian "news" and constantly putting them in front of the media.
Mattel isn't going to make Kardashian Barbies
