What do you think of the IRL doll?

I have no desire to get tattooed, name my dog Bastardino or dye my hair pink. I do love her accessories. She is a very cute doll.

I see what you mean based on your photo vs the promo shot. I'm glad I decided to pass, she isn't worth the money, in my opinion. I never keep my girls on the Muse body anyway so the tattoos would have gone to waste. What does concern me are the buyers who may end up purchasing this girl on The Doll Page at ridiculous prices.
ReplyDeleteI never wanted her in the first place--model muse body, REALLY! Why can't the powers that be retire that awful design?
ReplyDeleteI adore her. I absolutely love this doll and she's my favourite Barbie ever. I also love Tokidoki.
ReplyDeleteHere's a photo I took of her that I really like:

I preordered this doll in May. I heard about her last December and said, at that time, I'd be preordering her as soon as possible. And I did! ;)
And I am and have been tattooed for several years. ;) At one point in time my hair was pink, many moons ago. My dog's name was Gerry though.
When I got my Tokidoki Barbie I was disappointed at first too. But after I combed her hair and trimmed a few I started to get attached.
ReplyDeleteI just wish I could get a hold of the tattoos and stick them on a pivotal body. I would even bust out a Pop Life Barbie from the box for the body!
I think the going prices is so crazy! Nobody cared when Ken got tattooed and got a motorcycle.
You have a sharper eye than I. I agree that the doll is not as amazing as the promo, but I also think the difference between the two is less severe than the pictures you posted suggest. She's the only Barbie I own and I really like her! Surely worth $30...definitely not worth $300!
ReplyDelete@Jen: I enjoyed looking through your flickr pictures especially at the Elise dolls! Your link doesn't go to tokidoki. I found her, however, at this link:

@Anonymous: I agree that the doll is not terrible. I'm just saying that my first impression wasn't really good. It was a good buy at $30 plus tax. But what I got on eBay a little while ago was much better and will go toward my next Sybarite.
ReplyDeleteThat was worth it!
Terri
Oops thanks Terri, usually I double check my links before posting them. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Promo Doll is very cute - tatoos excepted. Actual doll a DUD - wouldn't waste the money!
ReplyDeleteThat seems to happen a lot especially with hair these days now they're gluing it down. Remember the repro Smashin' Satin Francie? No lift in the hair like the promo and just pulled straight down. She needed hair like Trenchsetter BFMC.
ReplyDeleteHer hair in the promo pics is so much better, I don't believe fluffing it is going to make it look like that, it's a different color pink. Her tatts even look different. I didn't buy her & wasn't planning on it, but if I had, I would have been disappointed.
ReplyDeleteFWIW. you can print your own tattoos via decals. there are kits for this at hobby lobby in the section that has car and plane models. you have to seal them over. of course, you could just paint on a pivotal body like nail art. however, exactly recreating her original tattoos is another level of tedium altogether.
ReplyDeletei'm glad she'll help contribute to a new sybarite for you, Terri. your photos of Talc are very nice.
I love this doll and was happy to get her...mine has no flaws and her hair is perfect..I think the price point of $50 is fair, you get alot of fashion pieces, cool pet, and a great doll...no regrets here!
ReplyDeleteHer hair is kanekalon, the dry and cheap fly away stuff Mattel usually uses on playline dolls. I'm very disappointed in them for putting this stuff on Collector Edition dolls.
ReplyDeleteThe hair in the promo pic looks longer and fuller on the sides around the jawline, at the crown and in front. She's still cute, but I wish controversy hadn't run up the price. The last time I checked, it was possible to purchase two AvantGuards for the price of one Tokidoki. Tonight, there's one selling online for $1,499. Looks like you can get a very good return on your investment! :)
