What Makes This Doll Worth $150.?

"Dolly Forever" Barbie by Christian Louboutin was announced today and Mattel is collecting names for a VIP wait list. Those whose names make it to the list are guaranteed to learn when she goes on sale. What a bunch of marketing hype. A total of 7,700 dolls will be produced worldwide for the price of $150.

The boots and shoes are very nice. The rest of the doll is average. The safari style dress is a bore and looks cheap. And the anorexic, unarticulated body of these dolls leaves me cold. There's nothing exciting about Dolly Forever above her knees.
You don't really need to get on the VIP list at all. The doll can be pre-ordered from your favorite Barbie dealer.

  1. Absolulty Nothing makes this doll worth $150..well maybe the fact that the people in Charged of pricing at the Big M are prolly drinking the Koolaid..or high

  2. I suspect that the dolls and fashions in this line are intentionally "average" so that the shoes will be the focus. Also many Barbie collectors are NRFB people so they probably prefer the non-articulated bodies as they do look nicer than the ones with joints. I might get the 2nd doll as I really do like the fringe boots, but I'll wait for it to go on sale! LauraLA

  3. I was actually interested in these dolls until I learned that most of the shoes from the first set were simple plastic shoes. That was very disappointing and made me wonder how that price is supposed to be justified even more.
Most of the shoes from this set look like plastic molded shoes, too, I think?

  4. I love the shoes and I do like the dress, but $150 for a doll that can't even sit down (without legs dangling strangely in the air)? What kind of fashion model is that?

I know you don't collect Barbies much, but have you experienced the stand that comes with the Model of the Moment bodies? I mean? She's leaning over when she's not totally falling!

Who am I kidding, I still buy them. Barbie, my dark temptress!

  5. @Dani: Yes, I have experienced the stand. The first time I got one I thought it was broken.

  6. Maybe they should issue shoes only package...
    Not impressed by the doll

  7. What makes this doll worth this price is the licensing of the designer's name.

Not to be disrespectful, but too many celebs thinks a little too high of themselves.

  8. Wow, the Versace gown barbie sold for less, and was much more impressive. This is overpriced, and not at all impressive. Especially when you consider there is nothing special about those shoes, and I'm betting those legs are stained from those boots

  9. I don't mind non-articulated dolls (probably because those are the types of dolls I grew up with), so she's worth it for me. I love her exotic looks and the shoes are cute. She's probably the best of the three.

  10. Terry have you seen the Pink Box Fashionista Barbies? They are fully articulated and go for 10 bucks. The facial screening is rather juvenile, but hey, I think it is a head swap away from being a workable, playable Barbie!
