Not Just For American Girl Dolls Anymore

The very popular adolescent line of American Girl dolls offers accessories, furniture pieces and room settings which fashion doll collectors are going crazy over. As it turns out, these items which are made for the 18" American Girls actually work better with our 16" dolls!

First up is a shop called Grace's French Bakery which retails for a whopping $500. Prego member, Johanna, posted many pictures or her insanely fantastic collection which includes the La Patisserie and Grace's Pastry Cart  ($150) with her dolls.  If you look carefully, you will see Gene Marshall chairs and tables in the setting! It's perfect.

Johanna also showed us Samantha's Ice Cream Parlor  ($300) being visited by her Tonner Patience dolls.

Mike (laughon45) posted the following three rooms. He, like Johanna, has added other 1/4 scale furniture to enhance these American Girl rooms. All of the dolls he used in these settings are Kingdom Dolls.

Isabelle's Studio ($275) That's quite a transformation. I love it.

Caroline's Parlor ($300.) I want this one!

Juies Bed & Bedding ($125.) and Julie's Egg Chair Set ($100)
As if the Egg Chair weren't adorable enough, it is actually equipped with stereo speakers. You plug a cable from the chair into your own music source and your doll can enjoy.

Some retired American Girl pieces can be found on Amazon.com and on eBay.  Some sellers will say "fits American doll" when it's not genuine American Doll. It that matters to you, be aware.

Dioramas By Amber Park

Amber is one of the most talented mini room designers out there. I don't know how this gal does it. She collects elements from near and far and combines them into the most visually appealing dioramas I've ever seen.
She has given me permission to reproduce some of the images here. I recommend clicking on each image to enlarge it so you can see the details. You won't believe your eyes.

While there you can meet the inhabitants of her rooms and read their ongoing stories. It's definitely a soap opera.

Miniature Mac Laptop

Isn't this the cutest prop?  It is a miniature Macintosh Laptop.  No, it doesn't work silly! It cost all of $5.60,  came all the way from China and took just under 3 weeks to get here.

With dimensions of : 3.66" x 2.56" x 0.35", it would be too large for a 12" doll but it's perfect for 16" - 19" dolls.  They have miniature iPhones, too, but they are out of scale for these dolls.

Egyptian Props

I dropped my mini Egyptian throne and could never put it back together properly.

I've been hunting for a replacement. Tonight I came across a similar chair and other Egyptian miniatures that would be great for dioramas. This is a lovely throne for your royal characters.
It is for 1/6 scale dolls and the measurements are listed as 4.5 x 4.5 x 7.5. That is perfect for Barbie, Fashion Royalty and similarly sized dolls. The price is $23.96. That's the lowest I've seen however they are charging an additional $7.95 for shipping.

The cabinet is very cool. It is called The Goddess Hathor Wooden Curio Cabinet. You can keep all of your miniature embalming supplies inside.

The dimensions are 8 x 12 x 20. It can be used with your larger dolls. Priced at $31.96 with $8.95 for shipping, it is a nice addition to an Egyptian setting.

Click on any image to go to the page where these are described and offered for sale.

Of course you will need canopic jars if you are going to do any real miniature embalming. This set of 3.5 inch resin jars are sure to do the trick.  I think they're pretty cute. The tops do come off. They're only $19.85 and if you order through Amazon with a $25. or higher total, shipping is free.

Finally, the ultimate accessory is The Ark of the Covenant. This one is a perfect size at 5 x 3 x 7.5. You can get this gem for $20.
I don't know what the strap is for. Could it be a yoke for tiny oxen?

The description says it opens to hold your treasures, however I would hesitate to open anything called the Ark of the Covenant

Didn't you see the movie?

Comic Relief

This week the theme on the Studio Commissary Board has been Props.  I was admiring the beautiful room that Wayne in Florida posted.

I thought his next photo was another view of the same room until I looked a little harder at the details.

Halloween is rapidly approaching!

Visit the Studio Commissary.
