Summer Project Part VI - The Triple Crown of Vanessa Dolls

July 4, 2019

The Triple Crown of Vanessa Dolls

This post varies from the format of my other Summer Project posts as I've gone into a bit more detail about these three dolls.

I've always considered these three Vanessa dolls as my favorite of the sculpt.

The lighting in this photo is messed up. Sometimes I just can't get it right.

Here's a FAUX outdoor photo to try and make up for it.

Promo Photos

Vanessa "A Fashionable Life" Platinum 2005. W Club Exclusive
Wearing Elise Jolie "Midnight Star"

This version of AFL was produced in a more limited amount than raven and therefore was much harder to get. She came with the same exact outfits in the same beautiful case, one of which I still keep to store my original story cards.

Vanessa "Flame Bleu" 2010. W Club.
Wearing her original fashion. I have never redressed her. She did come with gloves.

The style of her gown and her name pay homage to Veronique "Flame Rouge" 2003 as can be seen in these promotional photos.

That is a whole lot of dolls for a convention collection. I'm almost speechless. This IT convention has got to be the most expensive one yet. Gone are the days of the 6—7 convention dolls that you could take home in your suitcase...with a table doll or two and some swag stuffed in there. This is incredible!

If I were going to try to get anything from this list, here it is:

-Vanessa's (outfit only) - pink and frothy. I love it.
-Veronique (without outfit) is intriguing. I like the 40's glam aura.
-Eden Blair (dressed doll) is very pretty and her outfit is adorable. Love her hair, the boots, the 'turquoise' jewelry and the western hat. Unique combination. She is IMO the winner of all the dolls on this page.
-Erin's sheer embroidered top only. Nice piece. Interesting styling of her hair.

I don't remember Amelie and Misaki ever showing up at a convention. Misaki is cute. I used to have a good sized collection of her. Now I have just one. Their bodies did not hold up well.

Redressing: Domina, Fidele and Veroniques

We all have had  the experience of finding the perfect outfit for a doll. When that happens to me, I don't want to redress her. I love looking at my dolls. It gives me joy. When a new fashion arrives it sometimes takes a while to decide who will undergo the change.  Such a problem. :-)

Last week I experienced a redressing frenzy; the ensuing photo shoot resulted.

Domina models"Etoile" which I was able to get at the recent Superdoll sale for half the original price. This fashion comes with a pretty neckpiece which is not shown in my photo.

Fidele is modeling Madra's "Devil May Care" costume. This was produced by Ashton Drake in 2000.
Her shoes are from a Gen X 12-pair shoe pack. They fit the resin dolls very well.

Finally, a 2005 Fashion Royalty Veronique known as "Foreign Affair" who has been switched to an FR2 body models a mini dress by Huckleberry Jackson.

My rerooted, rebodied "Body Double" Veronique models "Perfect Reign" Tatyana's gown in front of the tree. I give a great deal of credit to anyone who was able to put on the elbow length lace gloves. I gave up after about a minute.

When It Rains....The Dolls Start Piling Up

Would you believe I ordered Perfect Reign Tatyana Alexandrova 7 months ago? She arrived today. So I open the box thinking it's Eugenia for some reason (CRS) and I'm wondering if they changed her sculpt. Then I looked at the name on the box. Well, this is the best looking Tatyana ever.

I always thought that her features were too coarse but she now has been adjusted to look like most of the rest of the FR line...vanilla.

Previous Tatyana's were spelled Tatyana.  Someone has a problem with i and y.
and
why does it say Dressed Doll Gift Set on the box? Am I missing something?

You know the saying about the left and right hands?

Prior Tatyanas-she is no longer a dark, brooding character.

The Red Queen was pretty cute:

Integrity Toys 2015 Spring Collection

On Saturday, May 16th, Alain Tremblay, Carol Roth, David Buttry and Vaughn Sawyer worked the eager, tuned-in masses of the W Club with the introduction of the new dolls. It was noted that these are not all the 2015 dolls. Roth gushed over the fact that this is the 10th Anniversary of the W Club and the 20th Anniversary of Integrity Toys.

First up is the new Katy Keene line that I was so looking forward to. It was a little disappointing to hear that they used the Color Infusion/Jem Body. A larger busted, more curvy body would have been perfect for a doll from this era. As far as re-using existing sculpts, why not make the doll look like Katy Keene? All that work put in to a new line and for what?
I would have bought the entire line; as it was, I pre-ordered only "Blue Serenade" and "Shimmering Dynasty."
I love the suits on Lorelei and Gloria but not the dolls so much. The Jem sculpt leaves me cold.

Lucky Red Lorelei  Jem sculpt
"Winning Number" LE 425
Gloria Grandbuilt  Tilda Brisby sculpt
"The Odds Are Stacked" LE 500

Katy Keene Sculpt: Jem 'Rapture' and Darby Kenner
"Blue Serenade" LE 500
Evening gown adapted from the comic itself.

"Shimmering Dynasty" LE 500
Black holographic sequin gown lots of jewelry.

"Everything's Keene" LE 500  Gift Set

Prices of the Katy Keene were $145. per dressed doll and $185. for the gift set.

Vaughn Sawyer introduced the FR 16 line.

He said his inspiration was "Strong, independent, powerful women, classic clothing, timeless fashion." I think in most cases he achieved that. For me, the handbags were the highlight of this particular line and the toned-down eye makeup. He explained that it's not airbrushed but they attempted a style to resemble airbrushing.
My favorite outfit was Fall Phenomenon. Exuberance was a crowd favorite.
I didn't order any of the FR16.

"Super Natural" Anais McKnight DD LE400  $175.

"Incognito" Elsa Lin DD LE400  $175.

"Fall Phenomenon" Elsa Lin DD LE400 $175.

"Shades of Grey" Hanne Erickson DD LE 400  $175.

"Exuberance" Hanne Erickson DD   LE 400  $200.

Poppy Parker  The Model Scene Collection  Later 60's
Inspiration: (David Buttry) Diana Vreeland's Fashion Models
I don't collect Poppy Parker but I think this collection is quite successful and I preordered three from this line! Had I been a collector I would have ordered three more. Spring Song was surprising for it's unusual character role that Poppy plays. It's my least favorite. My overall favorite is The Camera Loves Her. I love the era she portrays and the fashion is adorable. The black Poppy Parker "Midas Touch" is very pretty and her outfit is also adorable. And then I couldn't resist Nigel because of his cool jacket. I have a great group of Hommes in my FR collection and he will definitely add another dimension.

"Go See!" LE750   $120

"Spring Song" LE800  $120
Romantic Edwardian look

"The Camera Loves Her" LE 800   $120

"Hippie Dippy" mini giftset LE 700

"Out of this World"  LE 900   $120

"Peace, Love and Soul" LE 500   $120

Vaughn Sawyer
Fashion Royalty designers met with Jason who suggested debs and socialites of the early 60's.

"Style Notes" Isha LE 700 $135.
Sleek and sophisticated.

"Prestige" Natalia  LE 700  $135.
Nice suit but the hat is a jarring accessory.

 "Decorum" Eugenia LE800  $135.

"Refinement" Vanessa 3.0 LE 800   $145.
Under the coat is a smart black skirt and shirt.

"Fine Print" Elise Jolie LE800  $145.
I love the fashion. I wish the hairstyle were more interesting.

"Fame Fable" Kyori Sato  LE 700   $135.

"Timeless" Adele Makeda (3.0)  LE700  $135.
Disastrous color dress for this doll. The gown is very Disney Princess.

"Perfect Reign" Tatyana Alexandrova (2.0)  LE 700  $135.
Beautiful Tatyana. I've never seen her look better.
