Tonner's Shipboard Wedding Fashion and Herve Leger Fashion

I don't do bride dolls but when I saw this pretty bridal dress in the LE50 version, I jumped on it. It also comes in a dressed doll version called Shipboard Wedding. Sadly, I just realized that it does not come with the cool faux diamond ring or necklace.

Marilyn
I didn't like the stiffness of Tyler in my first pictures of her. They reminded me of old fashioned wedding photos where the couple would stand perfectly still (like dolls.)
So I colorized the full length image to go with that vintage feel. Still doesn't really work - but that's the way it goes.
The background is annoying.
I'm lazy.

More modern fashion awaits with the Herve Leger bandaid dress on Lingerie 3 Silkstone.
The clutch is too large for a 12" doll. I like large bags but they have to have straps. This one would work with a 16" doll so I'm keeping it - for now. I love the dress.
Speaking of stiff and rigid, Silkstone dolls are the epitome of mannequin stiff in my collection and yet I like them.
I like too many things.

I know. I have to get rid of that freaky backdrop. Ignore it.

MetroDolls Event: Part III

John Davey is one of the most interesting characters you will ever hope to meet. He looks like a quiet, shy-ish guy but the minute he gets in front of an audience - woo hoo. He is funny. His presentation was about the vintage fashions from his collection that were displayed in a separate room connected to the ballroom. These were from well-known European and American designers and spanned several decades. But the best part of his talk was his story about trying on something. I could never hope to write the story the way he told it. It was a riot!

The souvenir doll an attendee could choose was either an Ellowyne or a Daphne. The photos below are Tonner's except for the boxed dolls.

The Ellowyne:

I was asked if I won any auctions—I did not bid. Not that I wouldn't have liked a few of the possibilities. My favorites were Overwrought by Robbin Atwell, Cholo OOAK gown, Demuse by Nigel Chia, Gray Lady Gene, Laurie Lenz Paper Doll, JamieShow Gene "To the Manor Born" and Flutterwings by Shannon Craven. There wasn't a single one I did not like. I must say there were lots of bargains such as Emilia's Gres Inamorata which went for only $800. and Nigel Chia's Demuse which went for only $600. Many auctions ended well under $300.
Here are my notes on the ending prices. Reminder: you can click on any image to enlarge it.

I did purchase 100 raffle tickets and I won four separate pulls. The Gene outfits were one raffle offering. The Tiny Kitty dolls were separate and the Alex as Marilyn Monroe was another.  Thank you to the generous people who donated these.

That does it for the MetroDolls recap posts. Coming soon will be a mini review of Doug James' new resin BJD, Violett. I will also be photographing the MetroDolls outfits I purchased at the event and giving a little review. J'Adore Gene was hanging around without clothes so I tried "Smoking" on her. The pants and shoes fit beautifully. Unfortunately the jacket and halter neck top are way too big.
More to come.

Boater Ensemble Silkstone and In A Dream Marilyn Monroe

Two new dolls arrived today.
First from Barbie Collector is the club exclusive Silkstone called Boater Ensemble. I haven't deboxed yet but I will as she looks next to perfect. I'm pleased. Mattel's updos and pony tails are the styles they do the best.

I like her ensemble, however it looks very much like an airline stewardess outfit. The hat is a boater styled hat and, of course, that is where the name comes from.

Click here for an interesting article about Boater hats on Wikipedia.

Marilyn Monroe "In A Dream" by Tonner

I purchased this doll mainly because I love the fashion. She looks exactly like the prototype. I removed the plastic arm protectors and had a little trouble getting the fashion back to the way it was supposed to look. No biggie.

I can't get the headwrap on the same as in the photo because I'm afraid of ruining her hair which is in a nice updo.

The real problem with this doll is the horrible doll stand. Tonner has been providing this awful stand for the last few years. The doll can't stand with her legs together and in most cases, the saddle that goes between the doll's legs shows through the garment.

Dear Mr. Tonner:
Bring back the old Tyler stands on adjustable poles. These stands SUCK.
Thank you very much.

Tonner 2013 Main Line Release

There's always a mind-blowing amount of new dolls and fashion in a main line release from the Tonner Doll Company. I'm just going to touch upon a fraction of the offerings and will provide a link to the site where you can see the entire debut.

My favorites and the two dressed dolls I will probably buy eventually:

While I am not a fan of the Marilyn Monroe sculpt, I do love this fashion.
In A Dream $199.99
This is Precarious with a non-removable wig. (IMO no wig is 'non-removable,' it's just glued.) I love the fashion and I am quite fond of the Precarious sculpt.
Tamed $199.99

Another Precarious doll whose wig should be a lesson to another doll company that can't get their rooted bangs right:
Think Pink Basic $124.99
Quite pricey for a basic doll but her hair is perfection. Her wig is "white removable synthetic hair." I wonder if that is the same as saran. The sunglasses are adorable.  I like her a lot.

The anticipated "Warm Bodies" dolls:
R $189.99
I laughed when I read part of the product description of this zombie doll:
  • Oatmeal long-sleeve shirt with holes and stains
  • Red hooded zip-up sweatshirt with holes and stains
  • Denim pants with rips and stains
For those who don't  know, he is a character in the new movie, Warm Bodies. He is played by Nicholas Hoult. The likeness is fabulous.

Julie $179.99
This is R's love interest in the movie played by Teresa Palmer. The sculpt - meh.

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
It looks like Glinda, the Good Witch, has returned. There may be a few details that are changed but this is the same doll.
Glinda, The Good Witch $249.99
Below is a picture of my Glinda taken several years ago. There's no difference except for a necklace on the new one. But it's entirely possible I just didn't put it on my doll. I'm glad it's re-released. She was a stunning doll. The Oz line was incredible.

Here is another early one I found. Now I'm really confused.
 –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The 22" line got one of my favorite characters, Poison Ivy. Although I do not like her green vinyl, she looks very dramatic. The red hair is stunning, so is the price!
22" Poison Ivy $349.99
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
DeeAnna Denton, Cami, Jon, Antoinette, The American Model and Patsy fill up most of the rest of the offerings.  Sydney and Tyler make brief appearances.

The dressed Sydney leaves me speechless. If I were her mother I wouldn't let her out looking like this. The fascinator is described thus: Red fascinator with faux flowers, rhinestones, and veil. I detest faux flowers on doll clothes.
All Drama Sydney $224.99
Classic Elegance Tyler $199.99
Are we going to find out that Tyler is with child?

The Tonner Ballet Line is pretty. I've never gone there but I do like to look. Here is one of the three offerings from that line:
Wood Nymph $244.99
The ballet feet are removable and come with high heel feet to switch off.

On a topic other than dolls....as a photographer, I don't understand how they let this picture be published.
There are three major issues I would have had to correct. Do you see what they are?
