You are invited to the 15th Annual Facets BBQ!

Hi all -

Are you ready for another fabulous Facets BBQ??  Number 15 this year!  Where does the time go?

I'm inviting area doll collectors (and any traveling ones) to come to my house in Matawan, NJ for a BBQ and doll party on Sunday September 17th starting at noon.

Matawan is in central NJ, near exit 117a of the Garden State Parkway. It is easily accessible by NJ Transit trains from NYC or Newark.

It will be like the previous BBQ's with lots of people, food, dolls, sales, and more, but there are a few changes, so please read on...

I'll provide all of the food, and there is a cover charge of $18 per person and it must be paid in advance by PayPal (to applefrien@aol.com) or you can send me a check or give me cash if you see me beforehand.  Payment is required no later than Wednesday, September 7th in order to get an accurate head counting for food shopping.

I'll have a sales area set up in my basement - space is on a first come basis and is limited. If you are planning to bring things to sell, please let me know so I can estimate how much space is needed per person and try to get enough shelving/tables to accommodate. If you've been here before, you know the set-up. If you haven't been here before and want to sell, email me for more info. Of course, Facets will be set up for shopping, too :-)

In addition to shopping, we'll have door prizes, the infamous "free table", and lots of dolls to look at.

The "free table" is a table of doll related items that are extras, slightly used, unwanted, etc... It's a good way to get rid of those items that you think someone might want and you don't feel like putting on Ebay. If you have some things you'd like to put in, bring them. However, if no one takes them, you have to take them back or throw them out - they can't stay here! If you want to mail donations, LMK and I'll give you the address. I've already gotten some amazing things mailed to me!

If you want to see what the Free Table is like, check out pictures and Paul's video from last year:

Feel free to bring a doll for display. I don't have a theme - bring a favorite, a new acquisition, something you want to show off, whatever.

Contributions to the door prizes are appreciated.

If you need a place to stay in this area, I recommend the Apa Woodbridge (formerly Woodbridge Hotel/Woodbridge Hilton). It's about 20 minutes north of here and is more reasonably priced and nicer than the few hotels in the immediate area. If you are looking for travel mates or roommates, LMK and I'll try to help.

I hope you can make it to the party - it's a day of great fun, great dolls and great people :-) Email me to RSVP or ask questions. When you email me, I would appreciate it if you could put "BBQ" somewhere in the subject so I can sort out those emails.

Marcia

P.S. If you know someone who might like to come to the BBQ and that hasn't gotten an invitation, please let me know and I'll invite them.

You're Invited! Facets 10th Annual Doll BBQ - Sunday, September 9th

It's almost that time again. Bob, Rudy and I have attended Marcia's event for several years and it's always a lot of fun.  Not only is it like a mini-convention, you get to ogle her unbelievable doll collection. Doll collectors of all types show up.

Here is her announcement/invitation:

Summer's here and it's almost time for Facets by Marcia's 10th annual summer doll BBQ!    10 Years!  Wow!!

I'm inviting area doll collectors (and any traveling ones) to come to my house in Matawan, NJ for a BBQ and doll party on Sunday September 9th starting at noon.

I'll provide all of the food, and there is a cover charge of $13 per person and it must be paid in advance by PayPal (to applefrien@aol.com) or you can send me a check or give me cash if you see me beforehand. If you're going to do PayPal, I'd appreciate your waiting until a week or two before the BBQ so I have less chance of losing track of it :-) If you pay at the door, it is $15 cash - exact change required. My husband, Paul, really hates handling the money, so please pay in advance! All people who pay in advance will get a gift when they check in :-)
I'll have a sales area set up in my basement - space is on a first come basis and is limited. This Week in My Dolly World

My ever patient and often tolerant husband put up with endless doll chatter today in the car to and from Marcia Friend's home for her annual barbeque.

Then he sat through several more hours of doll talk.
"Who is that? When did you get her? What is she wearing? Does it stain? She came with that? I want one. What convention? Will these shoes fit? How much was it? Why did they schedule the conventions for the same weekend? I have one of those. You sold it? 1500 Barbies?" And on and on.
If I put myself in his place, I think I'd die of boredom or go mad. But the food was very good. The weather was gorgeous and some of us acted like crazed fools when they let us loose on the free table. So that had to be good for a laugh.  Rudy accompanied us and he loved the attention.

I don't collect Ellowyne, right? So I bought an Ellowyne. What else is new? Doll collecting is as rational as the weather.

Invisible Ink Ellowyne
This is Invisible Ink Ellowyne. The photograph is Tonner's. My doll's hair is nicer than the promo pictures which do not do her justice. What really sold me on the doll was the bargain price of $80. and these shoes:

Aren't they adorable?

Now I have to get Sybil.

And I love Sybil's carrying case, too.  This is how it starts. Let one new doll line in and the dominoes start to fall. Resistance is futile. I've been hunting the Wilde site for the last hour deciding what I would buy if I were buying. There are so many cute outfits and several on sale. Hmmm.

There were lots of door prizes given out, many contributed by other collectors and by Tonner Doll. I was lucky enough to win the "Dancing on A Cloud" Tonner fashion. I will try dying it as I already have one

It has been quite a week. On one day Jason Wu's "Fashion's Night Out" Poppy arrived along with Traveler Innoquii

Traveler Innoquii
and the Monogram dressed doll, Extravagance, who is not without issues. The Monogram fashion, Escapade and wig set also arrived.

A doll that costs $150 (or $50 for that matter) should not have hair that looks like this out of the box.
Apparently, the factory worker who messed up hair before is still employed and still messing up doll hair for a living.
I have taken the 'style' down and washed the gunk out. Her hair is rooted thinly (which isn't a bad thing) so if I want to keep the hair down, more will have to be added.

I will do more thorough reviews with photographs of Extravagance, Escapade, Innoquii and Ellowyne, too. Soon.

Tune in again.

Facet's Annual Doll Barbeque September 19, 2010

No, we do not barbeque dolls at this event. We talk dolls, look at dolls, buy and sell dolls, eat and run around a loooong table filled with free stuff. We also get to see one of the most impressive doll collections ever - Marcia Friend's.

If you're traveling down the NYS Thruway and want to meet up at the Kingston exit, let me know.

Here is the info from Marcia which contains all the facts and contact details you will need. I hope to see you there.

I can't believe it's September already!
I wanted to remind you that my 8th Annual Summer Doll BBQ and Party is coming up in less than 3 weeks - Sunday September 19th, starting around noon.  It's at my house in Matawan, NJ and I've already started cleaning... trying to get an early start!
Matawan is in central NJ, near exit 117a of the Garden State Parkway. It is easily accessible by NJ Transit trains from NYC or Newark.  We will have a train station pickup and drop off for those who need it, so let me know if you do so we can make sure we have enough cars available for that.

It will be like the previous BBQ's with lots of people, food, dolls, sales, and more!  I'll provide all of the food, and there is a cover charge of $12 per person.  You may PayPal this in advance or pay when you get here.  However, if you're going to do PayPal, I'd appreciate your waiting until a week or two before the BBQ so I have less chance of losing track of it :-)
I'll have a sales area set up in my basement - space is on a first come basis.  Facets will be open, of course (and hopefully a little more cleaned up than in the past - LOL!) :-)  We'll have door prizes, the infamous "free table", and lots of dolls to look at.
I have already gotten some fantastic donations mailed in.

Feel free to bring a doll for display.  I don't have a theme - bring a favorite, a new acquisition, something you want to show off, whatever.
Contributions to the door prizes are appreciated.
If you need a place to stay in this area, I recommend the Woodbridge Hilton.

Hope to see you on the 19th!
Marcia
P.S.   If you know someone who might like to come to the BBQ and that hasn't gotten an invitation, please let me know and I'll invite them.
