New Gene Marshall & Friends Dolls by Mel Odom and Jamieshow

The latest Jamieshow Convention was held this past weekend in Chicago and revealed a full compliment of Gene Marshall & Friends dolls.  I am sure that Gene collectors are thrilled at the resurgence of their beloved dolls, now in resin.

All photos by George Gonzalez.

From left to right: Oona, Ivy, Marsha, Trent, Gene, Zita, Madra and Violet.

Attendees could choose either a Gene line doll or a Jamieshow doll for their convention souvenir prior to the event. Marsha was the Gene line souvenir. She has a beautifully done face. I don't know what's going on with the pleats in the front of the dress. Perhaps one has to remove the jacket to see the dress design. I'm hoping to see owner photos of that.

The Jamieshow doll that was available as an option was a Cary Grant doll. He is not shown above but can be seen, along with all of the above dolls at:
http://www.jamieshow.us/GENE-CONVENTION-DOLLS_c_94.html

All the dolls are available either to pre-order or to purchase now. The prices are $495 for each except for Marsha and Cary who are $600.

My personal favorite is Oona. Her face, hair and outfit work perfectly together. She fits right in with the theme of Hollywood Canteen.

Zita is a striking doll. Her sculpt is intriguing and adorable at the same time. She looks like she's always ready to blow a kiss. Her wig cap is lovely.

Another favorite is Hollywood Canteen Gene. She is pure Gene, glamorous and beautiful. Dress and wig cap are well suited to her and the era.

Trent is dressed in a US military uniform and cuts a fine figure.

"Black Lipstick" Gene as Grey Lady

This was the 20th Anniversary Gene souvenir doll we received at the Jamieshow convention in Chicago this past weekend. She is a 16" resin BJD. Some people chose another doll. Gene was quickly sold out as were several of the companion dolls.

I have altered the black & white images below using Photoshop.

The Dimitha fur stole was a table gift. It is actually gray toned.

No doll can resist Rudy.

JAMIEshow introduces Mel Odom's Trent Osborn in a Double Life

I can hear the cheering from Gene collectors all over the world as they realize that their beloved male character, Trent Osborne, is now a resin BJD.  As handsome as Trent is in vinyl, his body is seriously stiff and unposable. Now collectors can pose Trent in all of his original clothes and shoes thanks to a smooth transition by Jamieshow.

The description from the website says:
Mr. Osborn, wearing boxer shorts, tank top and paisley slippers, comes with two molded hair caps, blonde and  brunette.  These icy blond and smoldering brunette identities are the focus of his 1943 noir "A Double LIfe", where he played not quite identical twins.  A large trunk was notably featured in this film.

In this life, Trent is packed in a stylish trunk for travel and clothing.  The trunk strikingly bears the Trent Osborn logo and is lined in brown velvet with ‘gold’ hardware and comes with 3 hanging rods.
Trent is made in JAMIEshow Smooth-J Resin in the same skin tone as Alejandro.  He has 15 points of articulation.  Trent has a new BJD body and can wear all of his previously produced wardrobe, as well as JAMIEshow Men's clothing and shoes. He will also come with a bald head-cap so he can wear a size 5 wig.

Limited Edition of 100 Worldwide
The doll is priced at $475.
Pre Order item Shipping End of January/February

The trunk is pretty cool but I would have preferred the doll be dressed in something other than paisley boxers and matching slippers. Paisley was most popular in the US at the end of the 1960's. Although the design has been around for about 2000 years, I'm surprised to see an American actor wearing it...unless it is  bespoke man lingerie. Who knows what these actors did in their budoirs?

The resemblance to the original Trent is pretty much perfect right down to the molded hair. It was a good idea to include the molded hair head cap in two colors.

Here are a few of my own favorite vinyl Trent looks:

I have only two remaining Trents in my collection. My favorite is "Skiing or Sheing" see above, (redressed) lower right. The other is Dreamy Trent from the last Gene convention. They are very frustrating dolls to pose as they don't move and their knees are always collapsing. However, they make nice arm candy for the Gene dolls. Trent never changed - until now.

So...does the new Trent float your boat?

New Fashion Ensembles from Sandra Stillwell

Those of us who attended Every Day's A Holiday last summer in Kansas City were able to pre-order an assortment of individual fashions from prototypes.
I ordered the following two. Descriptions are by Sandra.

AMERICAN BEAUTY
Sophisticated cocktail dress with sculpturally pleated skirt in seven layers of graduating lengths. A sparkling rhinestone buckle is the perfect touch. Accessories include black opera length gloves, shoes, and jewelry.
Inspired by a Roberto Capucci design, circa 1956.

ON THE PLAZA
Gene is "Kansas City chic" in this stunning suit of black and silver tweed. Jacket features decorative tabs and Swarovski crystal buttons. Accessories include a scarlet red wool hat with velvet trim, matching red gloves, jewelry and shoes.
Inspired by a Betty Rose design, circa 1950's.

Both fashions are expertly made and fit my models perfectly.  The layers of skirt on American Beauty are not wired. They stay up as a result of their construction. It fascinates me. I think I will add a necklace.
The suit is trimmed with rhinestone buttons. You can't see it in my photos but the fabric has a metallic silver thread running throughout. The shoes are miniature masterpieces of black suede with red trim. They were an unexpected touch.

There may be extra fashions to buy-not just these.

MetroDolls Event Part II

As I posted yesterday, the main speaker at the event was Robert Tonner who talked about the design and evolution of the Deja Vu line. Unfortunately, the new dolls from that line were not ready in time for display. It was the second time I heard this presentation but apparently every time Robert tells the story, he gets funnier. I love his sense of humor.

Small selection of the Tonner display.

Sandra Stillwell Presents showed off her fashions from the recent Every Day's A Holiday convention and several fashions from prior conventions. These are all for sale or pre-order - dolls not included.

Paul Pham brought four stunning Numina dolls with him and was offering for sale a few accessories.

Angelic Dreamz - JamieShow displayed their resin BJD line and attendees could see the newest resin Gene on display as well. The exclusive Grace from the Madrid Fashion Doll event is in the black hat.

MetroDolls themselves offered many fabulous items for sale, two of which came home with me. (Smoking and Eventail)

Facets by Marcia had one of her "I want everything" displays to drool over...wigs, shoes, miniature books, jewelry, pins, furniture, accessories.

Shannon aka Flutterwing Designs showed some of her beautiful work. Not shown below, her auction contribution scored quite high on the bidding list.

Laurie Lenz displayed a few dolls.

Ed of Happily Ever After in Philadelphia brought a nice selection of merchandise including Integrity Toys, Tonner and more. You can see him and Marcia's husband (taking pictures) around the back of this sales table. I'm sorry, I did not get the name of whose table this top one was.
Another sales table.

Robin Atwell and Monica Cooper

Several MetroDolls club members displayed their Cholo Ayuyao fashions in a mouth watering display.
