Black and White Tweed Suit Silkstone BFM

I was waiting for the Barbie Collectors' Club to start up again before ordering. Barbie.Com sold out and the Club is another story. I have a feeling it's not going to happen at all.
A few doll dealers still have her.  I purchased mine from Cheryl's Dolls & Collectibles whose price was $69.95. She shipped very quickly. Just ignore the evangelist christian literature she encloses with your merchandise. Not kidding. What is it with these people?
Here is one of Mattel's promo close-ups compared to a close-up of mine.

Is mine a little wall-eyed? The promo shots are always perfect, aren't they?

I thought she'd look cute with another black & white suited Silkstone.

Someone spilled the cream.

Barbie Fan Club "We're Sorry For Making You Wait" Reward

Those of you who faithfully send your $25 every year to the Barbie Fan Club are being rewarded for having to wait so long this year. According to those in power "the launch of the 2017 Club is part of a newly optimized website experience...and we want to get everything just right for you." The last time they "optimized" the website, all hell broke loose. It still freezes for me on a regular basis.
Even the link:

included in the email announcement, takes one to a blank page. They need help.

In any event, they're offering a "one-use" discount that will be good all year. Unfortunately, one must spend money in order to 'save.'

One detail to note is that the "free standard shipping offer with $100 minimum purchase" is valid even with this offer.

Barbie Fan Club Opens 2016 Renewal Period

The notice went out today to current members for renewal. The public period will open in one week.

Barbie Fan Club 2016

Will you be joining? If it weren't for the upcoming articulated Silkstone dolls, I'd be dropping out because these last two years have been very disappointing. What about you?

2/09/2015

Why do they even bother?

Every year the little gift from the Barbie Fan Club gets more insulting. Last year it was a crappy business card wallet. I'd give it to a 3 year old who would probably throw it away like I did.

This year it's a crummy eyeglass case. OK maybe it's a tad better than the wallet as my glasses actually fit inside and I can snap it shut. But it has the smell of a blow up pool toy and probably causes eyelashes to fall out.

Honestly, if the offerings this year are not better than last year, it will be my last year in this "club."

Where are all the people? They died from the vinyl fumes.

Membership is still open. Get your own eyeglass case and geninue membership card. Silkstone collectors from the early days will get the misspelled word.

Rush of Rose Gold™ Barbie® Doll

On 6/13/12 at 9:00 AM Pacific Time, a new Platinum Label doll will go on sale at BC.Com. This is for Barbie Fan Club members only. She is called Rush of Rose Gold and here is the description from the website:

Striking and sophisticated, Rush of Rose Gold Barbie doll is stunning in an asymmetrical dress of glamorous golden lamé. A single dolman sleeve makes a bold statement, while the wrap skirt falls just above her knees, adding to the modern silhouette. The black vinyl belt, hose and boots offer elegant contrast, while rose-golden accessories add the final stylish touch.
Created by Robert Best exclusively for members of the 2012 Barbie Fan Club.

The retail price is $85. Can you believe it? A non-articulated doll with dorky black plastic boots for $85.? I'm sure she will sell out fast. LOL. It seems that the sky is the limit with Platinum Label dolls because they are so limited. At least it could have been a Silkstone or on an articulated body.

Seriously? I have thrown away better looking boots.

I have to give Mattel credit for knowing how to do an open mouth so it doesn't look like the doll has a snaggle tooth. I can guarantee that the top of her hair will be messed up. It already looks shaggy and frizzy in the promo.

New 2012 Silkstones Pictures

The photos of new 2012 Silkstones due to be released next spring look beautiful. I like Silkies dressed this way rather than in beachwear or other casual fashion. "Barbie® Fashion Model Collection is returning to its roots and celebrating high-fashion couture with the theme Atelier."
Nice.
March, 2012 BFMC Walking Suit Barbie® Doll

April, 2012 BFMC Party Dress Barbie®

Both dolls are available for pre-order at Angelic Dreamz!

Also shown for Fan Club Members only was a club exclusive that reminds me of the Christian Dior Barbie: fitted jacket, flared knee-length skirt, long gloves, big hat. She looks like a real winner. I can't post that photo here but it's coming in February, so if you're not a BFC member, join for 2012.

2011 Barbie Fan Club: Will you be joining?

This is not a membership card!
The BFC club renewals go on sale 2/9/2011 at 9AM PST. That's Noon next Wednesday here in New York. There are 7,500 slots open and according to Mattel, last year's club sold out.  For one week 2010 members will have priority to renew. Then on February 16, 2011 membership is open to any registered member of BarbieCollector.com.
To those who wonder, this is what you get:

  • The opportunity to purchase BFMC® Ekaterina™ Barbie® doll (one per member, while supplies last*) and three other Club-exclusive dolls (limited quantities, while supplies last**)
  • Up to $80 in BarbieCollector.com Online Shop rewards – $20 per calendar quarter***
  • A snap-closure photo key ring, embossed with the new Barbie Fan Club logo
  • Designer Chats, sneak peeks and surprises, downloadable goodies, Fun Facts, doll community "celebrity" features, and so much more!
I'm wondering if we will be able to use our first $20. coupon towards Ekaterina. I have a feeling that the answer is no.

I will be getting this Twilight doll because of her outfit. There's really nothing else in the line-up that appeals to me besides the redhead Ekaterina and the ridiculously expensive Silkstone Darya. And that's OK.

The Twilight Saga Eclipse Jane $24.95. Available now.

Barbie Fan Club 2010 Membership Renewals Begin

Emails were sent out by Barbie Collector to all 2009 members reminding them to renew their memberships beginning today. Previous members get one week before membership opens to the public. The cost for one year is $24.95 plus any applicable tax.
The first Club doll is a Silkstone BFMC called "Palm Beach Honey." She would have looked so cute with Palm Beach Sugar Daddy. Don't you think?
Her price is $65.00. I was able to use a code to get $10 off. That code is A28844. I have previously mentioned that I don't collect Barbie dolls but I find it hard to pass up a pretty Silkstone doll.
If you've never joined the club, you will be happy to learn that during the year you get 4 discount coupons. This year it will be a $20., a $30., a $20. and a $20. There's always a Silkstone to pick up here and there and this is the best deal around! Additionally you can't buy the Club dolls if you're not a member unless you don't mind paying a premium on eBay. There's a chat board, a place for you to archive your collection and it's interesting to look around to find pictures of older dolls.

I do recommend membership - even for non-Barbie collectors like me!

Sugar Daddy Ken Gone Along With Entire BFC Thread

BFC Members Agreement #9

"...I am really sick and tired of the media/public dictating what dolls I am allowed to buy."

I say that it's not the public, it's the men in the corporation making the decision. Mattel makes toys and they want it to stay that way. Every one wanted that doll. Now, if he is actually ever made, non-collectors will snap him up and we won't even be able to get one!

Why don't they just put him out as an American Girl doll who had a sex change? He can go live with the re-homed homeless doll and they can decorate and go shopping and write books....

Why is it OK for female dolls to be produced in scanty fashions with slutty makeup and come-hither hairstyles but it's not OK for an effeminate looking Ken doll to be produced? I call that sex bias and it's disgusting.

Mattel's Sugar Daddy Ken. Will He or Won't He?

One of the moderators over at the BFC Board stated,
"What a week! As you have seen, we sneak peeked the BFMC Palm Beach line. One of the concepts in the line was a Ken doll. We posted the photo with the internal "working" name and the photo and name was also released to dealers. The Ken concept is not part of the official spring Palm Beach product line."

Huh? What happened?

This is the topic of intense discussion on that board and among Barbie collectors. From what I have read pretty much everyone wants that Ken doll to be produced. Count me in. The statement from the moderator is vague about the outcome of this particular doll.

The funniest post I read was posted by dollyhoarder who said:
"My guess is...they will probably change the name from 'Sugar Daddy' to something benign like 'Still Anatomically Incorrect Ken Walking Neutered Dog.'"

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
