Integrity Toys' Next Move - Katy Keene!

Integrity Toys is stepping back in time - to my time - in a new partnership with Archie Comics.
Katy Keene!

When I was a little girl, my aunt and I used to draw and make clothes for our Katy Keene cut out dolls. These are very fond memories.

The question is...would I buy dolls based on these dear memories? Integrity's announcement says, "the new Katy Keene collector doll line promises to bring something exciting for all of her fans, old and new alike."
Well I'm old and I was a fan. This is going to be really interesting.

It would be cool if Katy's fashions were vintage as she began in the 1950's, kind of like Gene Marshall.  Will she have a body like the women of that day had? That includes breasts, hips, thighs, arms with some meat on them.  Or will she be a stick figure?

There was no mention in the preview announcement as to whether or not she will be 12" or 16".  I know a lot of collectors who would love her to be produced in 16".

Are you not familiar with Katy Keene? I'm going to guess there are many who collect FR dolls who aren't.

  1. Wow if they made a new rounder body for the new line- I would be over the moon. Unfortunately, I don't think that it's likely. (Please prove me wrong Integrity)

  2. I hope it will be fashions from the 40s, 50s and 60s too. I don't care to see any more 80s cartoon crap like Jem. I am fine with them keeping her on the regular FR body (not the new one). What I mostly care about is the face and what sculpt they will use. That always makes or breaks the experience for me. Like BAT dolls were awful and I basically ended up spending 175 for a giftset just for the clothes as I had no use for the dolls themselves.

    1. I had never even heard of Jem until they produced it. BAT? What is that?

  3. Well, I'd never heard of her, and I'm old, but then I sort of grew up in the countryside of Australia. I don't even recall reading comics as a child, only my brother had some. However, she looks adorable, I do hop they have a great body for her, and don't use the older FR one.

  4. What a lovely memory to have and to share, Terri. That is the kind of thing that makes me smile.

The announcement email sent me over the moon! I have some of Katy's comic books and paper dolls, which I find enchanting. The outfits designed by readers added a wonderful aspect to the comics.

Please make her 16", and having a '50s vibe would be terrific! I wouldn't mind a fuller figure if they also release a nice array of fashions. What are the chances, though? Integrity seems to have lost interest in separate outfits. :-(

  5. Breakfast at Tiffanys? I don't like that sculpt, either!

    1. Oh, that. I know what you mean. I only kept a few of those outfits and got rid of all the dolls.

  6. I have never heard of Katy Keene but I'm getting a Katy Perry vibe from what I can see. I wonder if that's really what IT is going for? I'm personally not interested, but if they made that little sister, I might be :-)

  7. I'm gonna put my money on poppy parker/talluah type doll. 1:6 scale, same ole body. Yawn....

  8. Interesting. For me the issue with all the "cartoon" character based dolls is whether they look like or capture the feel of the character, and that can include the exaggerated body. As an example, I loved the "Jessica Rabbit" doll from a few years back, but the JEM line leaves me cold. Just calling brunette FR doll a "Katy Keene" and putting period outfit on her doesn't impress me. Seems like all the mainstream doll companies have committed to the character collector market. Perhaps that is just what the market will support.

    1. I just wrote a long response and then accidentally deleted it. It wasn't meant to be. I agree with you on all the points you bring up.

  9. I used to read the comics as well with all the great paper doll included.
My hunch would be a BOD body if it is a 12" doll. I think Chris would be perfect to head this.
You do bring up a good point, they did not say anything about her height.

    1. Chris is a fine designer! However, if they are going to reproduce Katy's iconic fashions, it won't matter.

  10. True, I do have to say that he has that special touch and eye for this period.

  11. I'm not familiar with the character, but I look forward to seeing the fashion, and I'm curious what her body will look like. It'd be nice to see a body sculpt more in line with the era. And that hair! :)
