Faraway Forest™ Elf Barbie® Doll

I'm a little late in presenting this new Barbie doll as she was released on 7/15/14.
Here is her description from the Barbie Collector website:
First in the magical collection, Faraway Forest Elf Barbie® doll charms with her pointy ears and fantasy costume mixing forest-inspired textures and colors. A green velvety, hooded cloak is worn over a long skirt, laced bodice and dramatic thigh-high boots. Vine-inspired accessories include a tiara, bracelets and belt. A “carved” staff with an embedded “crystal” and Faraway Forest map are essentials for the journey.

  1. She actually reminds me of Cerise Wolf, the SDCC Ever After High doll which I really want

    1. At least the Ever Afters are articulated and have removable clothes.

  2. Wow, sewn on clothes. Mattel sinks to a new low. What baffles me is the $100 price tag. Seriously, they couldn't afford a couple of snaps?

  3. The sewn on fashion is the reason I lost interest in this newest series/doll.
After seeing IRL pix where the sash doesn't go all the way round and just 'ends' in the back somewhere...I lost total interest.
These dolls are definitely made for the NRFB collectors.

    1. That sounds very Mattel, they never finish the backs of their playline stuff.

    2. But $99 is not exactly a playline price.

  4. With the exception of her staff, I think she is AWFUL. Aside from the non ease of playing with her, what do you think of the way she looks, Terri?

  5. I dont understand why mattel pushing the boring rigid mannequin body! What do with her? Just display or keep her In her box thats it so boring!

  6. I have her, and love her. I am half and half..... half my dolls are NRFB, have are redressed. I am happy to have her in her box on display, I don't plan on redressing her so I am OK with it all. I love her feminine face, her hair, cloak, accessories. I wish her box was a different color. I did use my $20 reward with her; I love fanatasy dolls and we don't get much of them. Mistress of the Manor looks to have articulation in her arms/wrists.... she is another winner for me as well. I can't warm up to the masculine looks of the Sybs or the haughty taut faces of the Integritys, so I still love Barbies for their sweet faces and fantasy offerings. I just have to be a little spend thrifty with them. ;)

    1. I don't blame you for staying away from the Sybs at all. It's ridiculous but I found that the less Integrity dolls I bought, the more money I had for one or two expensive dolls. I have too many of each anyway. Barbies are often a thrifty way to go but I'm used to articulated dolls and have to put every head on a different body if I can find one.

    2. I thought it was braided too, but its crimped, and then its not crimped all the way either, some section in the back isnt.

  7. I ended up caving in and getting this girl, mostly because i really wanted her clothes incase i decided to just keep them. I was also rather irritated that they were sewn on. I undid her stiching in the corset part, and theres more material tucked away, so it looks like maybe they were planning on adding snaps/whichever and changed their mind. Also for 100 dollars, why is this not a pivitol body, or some body with articulation. I ended up putting her on a old volks 1/6 body from the century gal, which has molded high heel feet, perfect for her boots. Im going to basically lace up her back, so i if i want to out this on other dolls i can and have a easier time getting it on and off.

Also I thought there was something wonky going on with my girl...and her head is squished. Plus if i stare at it long enough it makes my eyes feel their just bugging out trying to see what is wrong. Ill probably either repaint her, or tweak her.

    1. Thanks for sending the link to your own doll. I see a slightly off-center iris in her right eye but if you hadn't said something in advance, I would not have noticed. What bothers me more is the poorly finished closure of the cape and the fact that it's not lined. For $100. she should at least have rooted eyelashes and properly finished clothing. That being said, she is cute. I originally thought her hair was braided.

  8. I was initially iffy about articulated bodies with exposed joints after growing up on Barbie dolls with bendable knees. On a whim, I bought a new Life in the Dreamhouse Barbie and immediately loved how much fun they were to pose, and how much easier they were to dress. From there, it was just a jump to the Fashion Royalty dolls and then on to the 16" lines. When I bought some of the latest "wave" of Fashionistas, I was disappointed Mattel reverted to non-articulated bodies. Even the Silkstones are losing their allure. The only "classic" bodies that I buy now are the actual classic Barbie dolls. Sewn on clothing just doesn't work for me at all as I like to change their clothes. I guess my collector "type" is somewhere in the middle of NRFB and those who move heads between bodies and repaint. Maybe one day I'll move more toward the latter, but I'm not there yet. :-)

    1. The only thing that matters is if you are happy with what you have. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
