Dolly News Updates

Convention season is almost upon us and there are things going on all over.

Kingdom Doll announced that they will be working with renowned doll artist/manufacturer Doug James. They're not saying what Doug will be doing exactly and that will be an interesting revelation. Fashions, perhaps? KD states that "Doug is the owner of JDJ International, creator of the "S: series of resin fashion dolls as well as the popular CED 19" fashion doll line. In addition, James has designed...for the Madame Alexander Doll Company, Integrity Toys, L.L. Knickerbocker and Ashton Drake."
Also, stay tuned for the announcement about the release of the next doll, Hadrian.

Integrity Toys 2014 "Gloss" Convention sold out in two days. That's probably a record setting sell- out. There is a wait list. Link will take you there.
The second W Club exclusive doll was made available for pre-ordering by Club members only. She is the ultra popular Poppy with the favored so-called "Bergdorf" screening. (Right)

Why not release a redo of the Bergdorf doll? I have seen ridiculous prices for this gal. I sold a few for ridiculous prices myself. It is a very pretty doll.

Tonner Doll Company  continues to try to offload unsold goods at retail prices by calling them Warehouse Finds. Seriously, how messed up is their warehouse?
If these items were sold out, there wouldn't be any for sale. We do have brains.
Lady Arabella was the convention souvenir. Carmen was the special optional purchase doll. None of these is at a reduced price but if you still want one, go for it.  Ordering is by telephone only. To place an order call 845-339-2960.
I've written many times about how selling convention dolls shortly after a convention detracts from that special feeling of getting a truly exclusive doll. It's disrespectful to those who paid to go to the convention.

The Junky Spot announced Jun Planning's Groove Pullip "Make It Own" blank Pullip Kit.

This looks like fun and the price is so right at $34.99. I want one but do I have the motivation? Not really.

  1. Yeah, "warehouse finds" that are still priced far higher than other outlets will have in a few months. (Think anyone is going to pay $90 "on sale" for the James Dean doll at this point?) The "lost honeymoon" Scarlett gown looks
like the $49.99 boxed "Princess" Barbie outfits (Peppermint Princess, Winter Princess, etc.) Mattel produced in the late '90s. It's a horror. $250? Good luck. At one point does space or money run out that you want yet another similar doll in a large gown? The prices Tonner charges these days ($100+ for a basic, no stand) is absurd.

  2. hmm maybe if they re-release Bergdorf Goodman Poppy, collectors who bought the doll for ridiculos prices would complain? I mean I would totally love if they decide to produce her again, but I guess It would be unfair, kinda similar to releasing the convention dolls shortly after convention itself? I don´t know.... this new Poppy is nice and she has subtle differences ( the tone of her lips, blue-green eyes instead of plain blue) but I seriously hate updos.

    1. I'm sure there will not be a re-release and you rad absolutely correct. It would take away the exclusivity of the original.

  3. Being relatively new to doll collecting, one thing that puzzles me is the limited quantities of dolls that the companies produce, whether they are convention dolls or "regular" releases. Given the demand, wouldn't it be more profitable for them -- and more satisfying for customers -- to produce more instead of creating such a lucrative second-hand market? When a doll or outfit sells out in a matter of days or even hours and then is being sold successfully at much higher prices on auction sites, that seems to be information a company would take into account. Don't collectors become frustrated and give up on some companies?

    1. Troy: Not all dolls are produced in very limited quantities. The mfrs. want to sell out. I don't think they care what happens after that.

  4. Warehouse finds- I purchased James Dean as a clearance item for $69. And got free shipping!!! $90???? No. Lost Honeymoon would look MUCH better without the heap fur color. I'd rather us a silk velvet ribbon in it's place. The prices aren't that far from the original, dented box or not.

As for the Poppy Parker doll, the make-up is slightly different as far as I can see, plus the up-do and gown sets her apart from the BG doll. If I was an IT member, I'd snap her up!!! She's gorgeous. Seriously thinking switching from Tonner to Intergrity FR16, Wonder if a Tonner head would fit the IT body? Do like the articulation of IT's bodies.
