Escada from Emperis: A New 16 Inch Resin BJD

The people over at Emperis asked me to put out some information on their new doll, Escada, who will go on sale on April 18, 2014. The price will be £420  ($703.33) + shipping from the UK.  She is a Limited Edition of only 10 dolls.
Here is some of their promotional text (in their own words) and doll specs:
We're three friends - Marcus, William and Carlos. Three avid collectors who came together through a love of all things to do with dolls and collecting. We wanted to create our own doll, so in 2010 formed Emperis and began development. Emperis uniquely bears a stylized face of Megan Fox. From the beginning we had one vision and that was to have our doll completely designed and manufactured in England. Once there was an abundance of talent in the UK for the manufacture of dolls, but finding any remnants of this has proven somewhat difficult. It's true we can have our doll made in Asia, but that would take us away from our vision of ‘Made in England’ which for years meant quality and excellence, this is what we're striving to achieve once more. So that's us; three avid collectors striving for greatness...
We believe that we have a unique sense of fashion and style; we want to share it and bring something fresh to the world of dolls and doll fashions. So far all our designs have been met with adoration and lead to an extensive fan base. A first look at Emperis can be seen in the gallery on our website, there you will see our first prototype doll which after redesigning lead to our first sales model Escada. We're hoping everyone will love our vision for Emperis. All our friends and fans will spread the word and that word is 'Emperis'.
Escada with her innate elegance and natural beauty, she will become the defining face of Emperis. Her unique blend of strength and elegance will have you captivated. Her flawless looks raises the bar for doll models everywhere. She will conquer and solidify her place as the girl of the moment, Escada from Emperis.
Our girl can wear fashions wigs and accessories from other similar sized dolls.

    1. I notice you don't know what you're talking about or how to punctuate your writing.

  4. I do not like the knees at all. I think they make her legs look deformed.

  5. There does seem to be a strong Syb resemblance. The jointing does seem awkward in these promo picks and I wonder why they didn't show any of the fashions they talk about in their release. Will be interesting to see the final product.
    As always love the blog.

  6. I love her wig and fashion- and she is a beautiful doll. Her face does look somewhat like a Syb. Don't love the knees or the elbow joint transition, but that style seems pretty common with resin dolls. Hope they do well!

  7. Great to see another new doll for doll collectors. Overall she is just fabulous. Her knees and elbow joint are double jointed, designed for better posing. I do believe the designer very thoughtful about the flexibility for posing. Every doll has their own features, good and bad. This is kind of give and take. She looks more proportion to me compare to Syb who has a big head. I can see she is more looks like size zero catwalk model with elegance face. She looks real and fierce ( remind me of Kiera Knightley or Megan Fox lol).

She can be a supermodel with a lot of different looks and pose. I think she will be the next top model. Purely see the designer not make her just a pretty face and she definitely can pose. This is what we want for a fashion doll who can pose and can be fierce. ( Just personal opinion. no offense )

    1. I have a sneaking suspicion that you are one of the designers. Shame on you. It's OK to publish under your own name with your opinions. You do not fool anyone.

  8. I think this doll is a poor-quality copy of the Sybs. If I were C&D, I would be suing over copyright violation.
I always want to support and encourage new doll makers, but they simply cannot rip-off other doll artists to this degree.
There was another doll introduced last year, that everyone jumped all over as a stolen copy. In my opinion, that was a better doll with less "stealing" from the original. So where are the protests now??? A limited edition of 10 should not silence the critics.

  9. The critics are probably sitting around with their ball-gags firmly in place because it seems as if anyone has concerns they get shouted down ,banhammered and accused of being motivated by jealousy or just big meanies.Dolls dont get created by magic. The exact upper thigh joint with the locks in exactly the same orientation in some recent releases should concern everyone. But it obviously doesnt and so it continues. Why post anonymously????

    1. Well I'm not sure what you are talking about specifically, the dolls are clearly not recasts and the joints look pretty different to me (less attractive, frankly). Similarity between resin bjd fashion dollsin general is going to be somewhat difficult to avoid given that they are all resin bjd fashion dolls. So they all look like fancy FR dolls (or Barbie if you must), instead of a Volks or Doll Chateau, say.

I also think that accusing an artist or company of copyright violations is a pretty serious charge unless you know exactly what copyrights are at issue and have credible evidence supporting your allegations. Further, even if you did somehow have such evidence, I'd STILL think twice before slinging mud, because if you turn out to be wrong, and you have caused financial damage to a new company or artist due to your negligent libel/slander/interference with potential business relationships/etc.- that injured artist/company might just come after you for the damages you've caused by your behavior. Just a bit of free legal advice that you probably didn't want...

    2. To be clear this doll while esthetically similar to others is not what I was referring to.Are doll makers beyond any questioning?I would think any issues could be cleared up with process pics that many reputable casting companies require before casting.Anyone expecting buyers to cough up $1k for a doll should be open to providing more info if there are concerns. Also I have never seen accusation rising to the level of which you speak but Im not a lawyer as you are.I do make dolls though and my free advice is that similar joints gonna happen, exactly the same not so much.

  10. I think you answered your own question, dear Sharon. Who, in their right mind, would put themselves out there for public flagellation?
I agree with you that it is unfortunate in the doll community that any criticism is taken as personal put-downs. It certainly stifles any honest discussion.

  11. She's ugly as hell and trans looking (in the worse sense; ultra garish make up and.. when will they learn to leave an eye space between eyes?) and her "knee thing" is just ludicrous!
My dream doll won't be portraited by a suppossed "top model"...
