Montaigne Market Doll: The Sky's The Limit

Two eBay auctions offering the new Montaigne Market Elise ended at more than $1000.

This is the fastest and most extreme price inflation I've ever seen in all my years of doll collecting.

Both sellers are Paris based so they have the doll already. Another one of these is listed on the Show and Sell pages right now with a starting price of $1000.

If you didn't catch my prior post, the doll retailed for $206. Shipping to the US is strangely expensive at 50 Euros or $69.12. I suppose there was tax in Paris for those that purchased her directly. At any rate, it would have almost been worth it to fly to Paris, buy a few dolls and resell them.
Looks like I will have to make a decision.

  3. many who bought her will see this price and decide to sell her, there will be lots available for sale and the price will go down, at least that is usually what happens...supply and demand, there are very few collectors that can afford this price...

  4. Why is this news? this happens all the time. buy what you like and can afford. someone obviously really liked it and could afford to spend the money to buy it. This happens all the time.

  5. when you consider that's roughly a 300% markup, i think there are more extreme examples. because the cost of acquisition on this doll was higher, the net isn't as great. if you consider long buy and hold situations, there are definitely other comparable examples. i think she will settle somewhere above 700, which given the difficulty in acquiring (and the unlikely ability to reacquire easily), i think after the first flurry, she will be alot like Poesie...in that people genuinely like her, so they hold her as insurance or tradebait...just my 2 cents

    1. Everything you state is true but this is the fastest it's ever happened in my experience.

    2. it's the fastest if you look at flat amounts, for sure. but if you compare say a workshop poppy at 75 retail going for 300+ the first day people see her, that's the percentage precedent i'm thinking of.

i'm wondering how many of that dress the store stocks and if they won't hold a few as gifts...i think that's what? a 6k dress? for 6k, you should get a free doll...like venus lingerie eugenia...i'm betting the held some until the dress is sold through

    1. The problem there is that they're wearing glittered eyelids on the runway.
