The Mermaid Barbie Doll

Designed by Linda Kyaw, released on 2/8 and on backorder until 3/8/2012. Price $100.

Description:
Sure to make waves wherever she goes, Mermaid Barbie® doll wears a sheer bodice accented with beads and rhinestones in iridescent blue and silver. Iridescent paillettes create the first half of her shimmery tail ending with two different shades of pleated organza.

Pretty picture, isn't it? I would like to see this doll in person. She comes with the rock display but the ad says she cannot stand alone as shown.  I know many Barbie collectors do not remove their dolls from the boxes and this one is definitely a 'stay-in-the-box' doll. I can see this as a lovely 8X10 print for a doll room.

So what do you think? Is $100 a fair price for this mermaid beauty?

  1. Not at all!!! She looks like a playline with this "plastic coral" in her hair. Nothing like Enchanted Mermaid from a few years ago.

  3. A $100.00? Ridiculous. For that price I want her to swim and leap through hoops like a dolphin for me.

If she had green/aqua hair I would like her. She could recreate the Lady Gaga video "You & I" where the Memaid ["Yu-Yi"] is freed of her tail, comes into her human life, falls in love and does a fantastic dance routine. :D

    1. You can be sure she will go on sale because at this price I don't think she will sell out so fast.

  5. LMFAO!!! I had thought her face might be kinda cute, but I probably wasn't going to bother with actually ordering her. And now, I find out the price!!!! That's why I'm laughing. Didn't realize the suggested retail price for this thing till I saw your post.

  6. All I can think when I see her is " Where did they put the Unicorns or Pegasus?" Looks very 90ish playline to me.. JMO, and no offense to those who may love her.

  7. $100.00 !!! I wish I could find it for this amount. My 9 year old daughter who loves mermaids will have to go without thanks to all the greedy adults who bought the doll for re-sale value. THANKS, I hope your profits bring bad luck.

    1. I agree. I saved up money to get her, and now she is all sold out. I cannot find her anywhere for less than $200. On Ebay she is selling for at least that amount. It stinks when you have to wait and save, instead of just putting it on credit.

  8. ♫♫ Up where they walk, up where they run.. up where they stay all in the sun, wandering free - wish I could be.. Part of that world ♫♫ -- Do you remember this song? Heheh. I did remember this song the moment I saw this barbie doll. It looks like Ariel in the movie Little Mermaid. Heheh. Beautiful, isn't it?
