tokidoki™ Barbie® Doll

I think this is one of the most adorable dolls I've seen in a long time. Too bad she's not on a pivotal body but I have one waiting for her if I decide to ignore her tattoos.
So anyway, I was looking around at prices since the dolls are already available and the cheapest I found was at Urban Collector for $58.99. I put it in my shopping cart. They use UPS which spells expensive to me. Shipping would have been $12.94. Fortunately, I looked at BC.Com and on October 1, 2011 the doll will be available for $50. At that time my next coupon should kick in bringing the cost of the doll down to $30.

It's enough already with the stupid Model Muse body.

The word means "sometimes" in Japanese, but tokidoki Barbie doll is always ready for cutting-edge fashion! She pops on a pink miniskirt, logo leggings and black top with signature skull heart and bones, carries a large bag from the brand, then adds bracelets, a belt, and sky high sparkly silver shoes! This funky fashionista features trendy tattoos and a pink bob. With cactus pup Bastardino by her side, she's ready for fun in fashion forward form!

I can't believe the puppy is called Bastardino. Isn't that off the Mattel beam? What will parents say?

  1. Bastardino is the name of the dog already. He's part of a Tokidoki line of toys so they can't really change it. He's also arguably the most popular of the pups which is probably why they chose him instead of one of the others with a more innocuous sounding name. ;)

I hate the body too but she's got those tattoos so... Sigh. She's on her way to me. I had pre-ordered her back in June.

  2. She is adorable. Ugh, retire that Model Muse body! They have to know only adults are buying this doll. By the way, Bastardino just means pooch in Italian.

  3. The Model Muse body needs to be retired and replaced by the pivotal body. Sometime I wonder if they do this on purpose b/c they know that real collectors will purchase multiple pivotals to use on non articulated dolls. This really pisses me off. If they insist on using the MM body or keep giving us non-articluated Silkstones, then they need to lower their prices. I will not pay Integrity prices for non articulated dolls. I just can't justify that in my head.

  4. This doll is absolutely adorable! I must admit though, I want her outfit and the dog for my Momokos. I added this picture on my Flickr page awhile back and this Barbie is attracting a lot of people who don't even like Barbie. It must be because of the tattoos and the Toki Doki brand.

  7. @Jen: Thanks for the information. I love that little puppy. I'm afraid to start looking at Tokidokis because I'm liable to like them if they're all as cute as this puppy.

  8. Edmondlives, I'm a "real collector," and like the MM body (make that two in every crowd, Terri :-). A lot of people (real collectors) like the MM body. I also collect FR/Nu.Face/Misaki/Silkstone (which I like non-articulated), etc. Different strokes, as they say. And I do debox my dolls, so it's not like it's because of the "play" factor. I just like different dolls for different reasons.

If the MM body is selling, they really don't have a reason to change it. If people are buying them to rebody them, BC has no way of knowing how many people are doing that, so it's just perpetuating the idea that the MM body is more popular than it may actually be (but like I said, a lot of people like the body).

I stopped buying the BFM collection when it went off the path that I enjoy. I stopped buying dolls that come in those crappy plastic boxes (I do keep some of my BC vinyls in box). I won't pay for something I'm not 100 percent happy with; if I did, I would be sending the message that they should keep doing what they're doing.

    Love your blog, Terri.

  10. Terri, yeah they're insanely cute, you may want to avoid! :)

I have Riposino. I'd wanted to get Bastardino and now I won't have to. ;)

  11. Thank you for the info about getting her for $50. She will be my 1st barbie purchase, because I like the tattoos and that forces me to keep the body, and I was just about to get her elsewhere for $70! Now I can wait & use my coupon too... whew...

I wonder if I could tattoo up the pink haired Aria DG and dress her in this outfit instead? Options...

  12. @Shuga-Shug: Wouldn't it be great if the tattoos were transferrable?

  13. Thank you so much for this info, Terri! I didn't know that she'd be available at such a good price from BC - now my last reward is going for her, too!
