Dania Zarr "Lady in Waiting" & The Cost of W Club Dolls

Dania Zarr "Lady in Waiting" is the first of two 2010 W Club dolls. She arrived a few days ago and had her photo shoot last night. She looks just like the promotional photos...

until you start to comb her hair to get the flyaways and other distracting hairs fixed. The more I tried to smooth it out, the worse it became. I used three different products by the time I was done and it still wasn't perfect. Photoshop helped this image a great deal in that area.
The jewelry is interesting. The earrings are overscaled and in real life they would tear her ears off. The necklace is stunning and I've seen loads of huge neckpieces on the market recently. It can be gently adjusted. My recommendation - put it on before you do her hair and tape it in place temporarily. It wants to turn around backwards.
The dress came with a stitch holding the skirt to the box between her legs which created a dip in the fabric. The bottom of the dress is rather stiff due to the applied ruffles so I don't know if that can be steamed to make the shape more moderate. I think if it were carefully pinned to shape and then steamed, it might hold. Her shoes are the omnipresent gladiator style with a platform sole.

W Club dolls are expensive when you do the actual math.
There is the base membership of $50. which shows up as $25 in the math below.

Dania cost $110 plus shipping per doll. Everyone got a $20 coupon so the doll came to $90 ps. which cost me $14.05 as I purchased two of them.
$90. + $25. + $7.02 =  $122.02 per Dania.

The second club doll, Anja, is selling for $135. plus shipping. If I order two and the shipping remains the same, that doll will cost me $135. + $25. + $7.02 =  $167.02! Holy Moly. That's a lot of money for a doll whose promotional photo looks iffy. She may actually be the only W Club doll that won't be purchased by me.

There's also the upgrade membership which, this year, included the option to purchase an Avantguard doll (Freeze Frame) and a Fashion Royalty doll (Spring Forward Eugenia) neither of which I kept. That membership cost an additional $105. above the base membership. At least I think it did. The dolls were an additional sum.

  1. i like the shoes even if they are omnipresent.

i wasn't willing to buy a doll just for her shoes.

it's the hair scale that kills me. it's HUUUUGE. her sculpt and the hair together remind me of Alysa with her playline hair.

  2. You say she looks exactly like her promo pics but her hair color is anything but that lovely brunette those photos showed us. I am glad I did not get this one - and will be getting Anja instead (using my $20 coupon). If you compare the price to regular line FR I think they do come a bit cheaper. Anja in the regular line would be at least $150.

  3. @Stratos: In person, her hair is a blend of light brunettes and dark blondes. It's a really nice shade.

  4. I am liking Dania, I can't wait to have mine in hands to see what I really think of her!
As for the price of the Club dolls, I think they are pretty expensive indeed... I was hopping we would be offered some gorgeous dolls like Pewter Natalia or Platinum Jordan from last year...
Shipping for 2 Dania's to Portugal was over $50... 1 doll I think it's near $40 or a little over that price.

  5. @Ana: Have you done the math on whether or not you could save money on shipping if you have a shipping buddy receive your dolls and then send them on?

  6. Actually I haven't made the math... I don't know why it never crossed my mind, but I really *hate* "upsetting" a friend, unless I really need to. Actually the shipping rates are a bit more lower since they did the revision on the prices... before they were a lot heavier, now I think it might be closer to the actually shipping cost for Priority Mail (if they charged for Express Mail, I would definetelly had to do some serious thinking)

  7. @ Uriah: How dare you! LOL! If only they made Alysa with a smaller head better quality hair. @ Terri & Stratos: I agree with you both. I like the color in the promo pic but I also like the color hair she came with as well. I have not tried to style it at all yet, but it looked like it might be difficult b/c of the flyaway potential. I'm kind of on the fence with her. I like her, but I'm not sure if she is going to stay at home with me or just stopping by for a visit...

  8. I actually would luv to see a dark brunette FR doll (not enough of them, actually can't think of any in my collection). Agree with your comments Terri (shoes, hair), the doll is pretty though.

As far as prices for W Club/dolls etc.. yeah quite pricey and with less and less accessories each year. It would be nice to have an accessory pack as an offer for next year.

  9. I am very pleased with myself for passing on this one. But then again, I think Dania is way over used, and pretty much hold that against any new Dania.

  10. Terri, can you tell a little more about the membership? I'm considering but not sure yet... is there only the club exclusive dolls that make it worth it, or is there more?

As I live in the Netherlands, I would definitely have dolls shipped to my shipping buddy (assuming thats possible when ordering from integrity? never had a problem with tonner/WI)

  11. @Carima:
In the past, basic one year membership has cost $50. This entitles you to the use of the forum and you may also buy the club dolls. If there are exclusives (usually by lottery) you are permitted to enter. Club members get a two day early notification of IT information. This past year there were a bunch of discounts one could take advantage of from dealers. If you attend the IT convention, you are eligible to purchase a ticket to attend the special luncheon at the convention.
I don't think I left anything out. If you email me, when the membership announcement comes out, I will send it to you.
IT will send dolls to a shipping buddy at your request.
Hopefully I have answered your query.
    Terri
